Great Service and the Food was Delicious!

This was our second time to visit, but this time we took a family of 5, including three children. Food was delicious and several of the orders were modified without any hassles. We had burgers and fries and rings and Oreo milkshakes, some orders gluten free. The quality of food was really, really, good. Kids were happy and adults were also very happy. There were absolutely no issues among the seven of us. Nice view!!

Ruby's On The Pier

What I love about Ruby's Diner is the memories I've made as well as their delicious food. To begin, Ruby's is a place where memorable moments are made. From all the times I have visited there with my family, it has always been an amazing experience that I have never forgotten. It is a family-friendly diner that is perfect for all ages. The layout/design is also my favorite part of this place. The 50's theme makes it even better and has a creative vibe. Next, the burgers have so much flavor they make my mouth drool and are well-cooked and very tasteful. Along with the burgers, another favorite thing I like to order there is the hot chocolate. I order that every time no matter what season it is. One last thing about Ruby's is the service. The workers there are so kind and sweet and it makes the experience even better! I have always enjoyed my time at Ruby's and recommend going there the next time you are around the area.

Delicious food

Wonderful food, great view, and great service. I recommend the burgers and French fries! We sat outside and enjoyed the view. The k my bad thing is there isn’t a restroom. You will need to go before getting on the pier.

Nice view!

Food good but basic, staff friendly. The dinner is at the far end of the pier so the view is excellent (we saw a group of dolphins slowly swim by as we ate) but also it can get cold if windy so bring a jumper.

Best spot for lunch and shakes

My wife and I walked out onto Balboa Pier and were pleasantly surprised to see Ruby's Diner open. We had shakes and they were great. We wish we hadn't already had lunch as the burgers looked fantastic. We are from out of town, but we will be back. Enjoyed the staff, the food and the ocean.

Fun place to eat, but need patience waiting for food as its busy.

This was our second trip here. Food is good, fun place, but it takes a long while to get food as it is busy. Our orders were not right and ticket was off so needed to have patience getting all of that corrected, but staff was very nice. It has a great view of the ocean.

Horrible Experience

I rate a 1 and you don’t want to know what my wife said. We always enjoyed Ruby’s on the pier in Oceanside, but it is now closed so we came to Newport. It’s dirty, the staff is unfriendly and inattentive, they use paper goods instead of plates/cups, and the food was….well my wife ate about 25% of what was brought.

The diner is located at the end of the Balboa pier. You can do grab and go or sit down for a drink and meal. You have to ask a waiter to be seated. When we were there, there weren’t very organized. It took them 15 mn to bring the menus snd another 20 mn to bring coffee. Apparently, they were out of coffee and had to make some from scratch. That wasn’t very convincing. But on the other side, waiters were very nice. So we didn’t complain.

Worth the walk to the end of the pier!

On a leisurely Wednesday afternoon, we walked to the end of the pier, and could not resist partaking at Ruby's. The hot dog with chili and cheese was very good, and made for a memorable day!

Good Food, Nice Location

There were two of us on Oct. 16. We both had a Hickory burger w/ fries. There was natural cheddar cheese on the burger.It was very enjoyable.We sat outside and watched the fishermen as we dined. One of them was playing '70's Funk Disco out of their boom box. Service was good and so was the iced tea.

Great lunch on the pier! Ruby’s is simple and delicious. Burgers, patty melt and chili were all good. Great fries and rings. And the view at end of the pier was great.

Time travel to 1950 to Ruby’s Diner

Let’s step back in time to 1950, where the food was great and the milkshakes were greater. At Ruby’s Diner you get the view of the ocean, people fishing, and the ambiance of being in the good ole days. This is the perfect place for a quick pick me up, as they have a walk up window out front for to go’s or if you would rather sit and dine, they have two seating sectioned outside. Their classic rooftop seating or back patio seating. Pre-Covid-19 you could go inside and enjoy their retro settings of aluminum napkin dispensers, red and yellow catchup and mustard bottles, and of course the classic red and white vinyl chairs and booths. The servers all still dress like their in the 50’s and the food is awesome. I give this a 5/5 for the great service, the awesome family setting, and the extremely tasty food. (I will tell you, if you have a weak stomach for fishing, I would suggest sitting rooftop!) I had the Albacore Melt with fries, and I must say the melt was so fresh it literally Mets in your mouth. The fries are classic shoestring fries, which aren’t my favorite cut— but they were very fresh and very good. When I visit my family in Orange again, we will definitely have to make a return trip— with a milkshake next time!

GOOD PLACE FOR HAMBURGERS, FRIES AND SHAKES

This is a good choice if what you want is a hamburger (a variety are available — hamburgers, cheeseburgers, bacon cheeseburgers, etc. ). The fries are also very good and they have a large selection of delicious shakes. The service is also excellent. For casual dining, hard to beat.

This place is a MUST.

This place is a MUST. There is NOTHING comparable to sitting out in the sun overlooking the ocean & sipping on a milkshake while you enjoy your meal. Seriously. I love their coffee milkshake. My husband had their mocha shake one day & their black cherry another day. Yes we came twice! Wouldn’t have it any other way! Their Roast Turkey Sandwich was the most refreshing delicious sandwich I’ve had in forever. Was served on a lovely soft roll. With tons of cranberry sauce. I’d def order this again! My husband had their Seafood Combo. Twice. :)

The place to eat at Balboa Beach

The Food is not cheap for a Canadian but it is Good! Their Fish and Chips are delightful. The Hamburger platter is delicious and it comes with unlimited fries if your skinny enough. But the highlight is the location. Hundreds of feet from shore, you feel like you are right out in the Ocean. The view and location are worth the price. You can dine outside at the end of the pier or climb the stairs to the large outside upper floor balcony. The Foody Guy
