Lenny Williams: Chill

Best known for his work as vocalist for Tower Of Power, Lenny Williams has carved out a simultaneous solo career, with this reissue coming from 1995. Here, he mixes and matches the artists, which include multi-instumentalists Mike Mani, Felton Pilate and Preston Glass. There’s a lot of synthy soul as on the title track, and tons of plugged in funk on “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now” and the cathunka-thuna’d “There’s No  Hiding Place”. A bit of smooth jazz glides in on “It Could Have Been You”, but most of the time it’s seductive soul in a mellow tone, as on “Has Anybody Seen My Heart”. Crooning for Don Corenelius.
