Finest progressive blues (-rock) !!!
This is heaven for open minded blues afficionados.
The arrangements, the feeling, the musicianship, the power, the groove, the fun...
Classic and one of the best climax albums

Rich Man is another very good long play record by this group. There is not as much blues material on this platter and more progressive rock than on their previous recordings. Kinda hard proggy rock in spots.
The musicianship on this album is some of their best. Their sound is a little hard to explain, at least for me. Rich Man is worth a spin or two in my opinion. I really like this bands vibe.
RIP Peter Haycock
RIP Colin Cooper
RIP Arthur Augustin Woods

As mentioned elsewhere this is just as much prog rock as it is blues but it is still a pretty good album whatever you want to label it.
Not being hugely knowledgable about The Climax Blues Band or Climax Chicago as they were known for a while, the first thing that surprised me was that they are British. Don't know why but I just assumed they would be American. So you live and learn as they say.
As for the album well the title track 'Rich Man' has a really nice structure and is a great opening track. The following 'Mole on the Dole' which really gives away their Englishness now I think about it, is another great song with a really nice melody and some good sax. Along with 'All The Time In The World' with its nice groove and good harmony they are the best three tracks on offer here. Not far behind though in the terms of quality is the fast paced almost rock and roll blues of 'If You Wanna Know'. The similarly bluesy 'You Make Me Sick' and 'Shake Your Love' are also decent enough if nothing overly spectacular. The same can be said of 'Standing By A River'. In fact it is only on the closing old time blues of 'Don't You Mind People Grinning In Your Face' that the quality drops below good despite the best efforts of the harmonica and slide guitar.

I always find myself enjoying the moments when they allow Peter Haycock to exercise his fingers on the fret board. Most of _Rich Man_ allows him an opportunity and it’s better for it. At times I am thrown off by their odd vocal harmonies. I guess its part of their signature and an acquired taste. I find this to be a good set of material. But don’t be fooled by the blues in the name as this leans more toward progressive pop/rock. The opening title track is a highlight and so is the second side opening “Shake Your Love”. Almost a 4 star album and maybe the start of a slow decline.

i found this along with some other stuff i was not looking for and remembered that this was just another record in a pile given away, under boxes and heard most never and although there is plenty much since then, this is a song that ends odds. goes.
it was along time ago just as yesterday is.
