I just did, and it was fucking awesome. Being a massive fan of the original graphic novel, It's pretty embarrassing that I didn't see this "Ultimate Cut" until now. I guess after watching the Theatrical Cut one too many times, I just felt that a bunch of footage couldn't fix the inherent flaws of Zach Snyder's adaptation.

Watchmen is bold, intriguing, and captivating. Visually it's outstanding. The cinematography is stunning, everything looks so crisp. It's got some gnarly action set pieces, with sweet special effects. The soundtrack too, damn that was great. And to top it all off, Watchmen is a comic book film masterpiece.

No film takes a giant shit on its source material like Zach Snyder’s Watchmen. Not even Daredevil completely disrespects its comic book origins as much as Watchmen does.
In this review, I plan to go over where the film simply fails as an adaptation, and therefore as a film itself. I can’t go over everything, as that would take too much time. Instead, I’ll go over the major points that bother me.

Snyder is far too literal to seriously dilute Moore's already blunt cynicism but he's also not smart enough to actually bring any new ideas to the table, and so the result is this drop-dead gorgeous, meticulously overdesigned visual transcription. generally it's unafraid to let the sillier moments (cf. Leonard Cohen sex scene) stand right next to the more disturbing ones (say, Dr. Manhattan's origin, probably the most effective sequence in the film) and i'm more than happy to settle for a massively expensive, effects-driven superhero jam that boils down to stuff like "My boyfriend doesn't understand why I get upset when he duplicates himself while he fucks me" or "I give everyone I care about cancer". there's plenty here to be ambivalent about but just as much psych-out anomaly to love.
"They're shaping me into something gaudy... something lethal." Totally understand people's irks that this is more of an exercise in design and engineering than in Moore's genuine existential meditation on image/genre/history but idk fuck you I like the engineering. That this works at all is nothing short of astonishing.
