Hey gamers! So I'm not a huge reddit user or anything but, I do like to hear opinions from people who enjoy the same things I do.... so here I am. Like the subject said, I'm just wondering what everyone thinks of each game in the series. Like your favorite games and characters, why you love the games, etc. I wanna share all my opinions on the game, and I'm also really sick recovering from surgery so, I really like writing and I hope you all don't think I'm weird for writing so much. Ill share the ones I felt were the best games in the series! For me personally, my first Everybody's/Hot Shots Golf game was 3 for the PS2. I found it much more difficult than Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour for the Gamecube but, I still liked playing it, and enjoyed the goofy characters of the game.

The 2nd I got and perhaps still my all time favorite, Hot Shots Golf Open Tee:2 for the PSP. There's a lot of reasons for this, I mean first off this is up there among the best games on the entire PSP! The item's system was just so fun, all the cute outfits, the little dogs/cats/cars, all the special clubs and whatnot, the stat boosting items with special combinations that further boosted you, All of that just added so much to a genre of games that at times, people talk about as simply just a relaxing casual but sometimes boring experience. On top of that, the special challenges to get some of the items and characters added a lot of replayability! The challenge mode was just so damn good... 12 courses! 18 characters! It had everything from the first Open Tee 2 game, all 6 courses 9 golfers, plus a new 6 and 9! I mean I could go on all day about this one, the 12 courses is still the most ever in one of their games. The style and graphics/sound were excellent, not as great as later releases but, still, this is the one that I put the most time into. It's been a while since I played this so I can't even remember the character names... but there's definitely some great ones! The game also plays pretty well. Not as many features as later titles but, still plays great.

Now onto the PS3 games.... first, I wanna talk about the characters here. let me just say that 1 of the things I like most about the more recent games is getting to golf with, well, beautiful female golfers lol! Who wouldn't like that right? I mean Clap Hanz always does such an amazing job at designing various characters, but they always add at least a few aesthetically pleasing ones to play as. Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds had this for sure. I've heard people commonly say that Alex is the hottest video game character they've ever seen... or the hottest character in the series. That kind of thing adds something to the game for me. Playing these games to relax and unwind yet still have a good challenge is why I play them. The aesthetics of the characters is very important when you're creating all new golfers every time. It's not like Nintendo where they just throw on the same people every time. Both of the PS3 games seemed to have female characters that were all quite attractively designed... especially World Invitational where its 10 female 6 male. Out of Bounds counting the DLC was what,, 8 female, 10 male, and the 2 lil Sony characters. Clearly they knew what they were doin! :)

Now I understand not everyone gives a crap about this but, from the people I talk to who play the games, this is also one of the main things they enjoy about the Clap Hanz games, so I can't help wanting to ask everyone who there favorites are especially from the more recent games. In Out of Bounds, Alex for sure isn't just beautiful, she is the best character stats wise. She's so perfectly balanced... but I also liked using Gloria of course, Sasha, and Sophie. It's a shame we didn't get customizable outfits there though. In World Invitational however, they really took the design and the graphics to the next level! Customizable outfits were back! Characters look more real instead of cartoony. I mean gosh, this was for sure the game with the best roster as far as looks lmao. Yuni is adorable, Isabelle has such a great accent, Lani is super adorable, Grace (My fiancee's name so that's her favorite haha) is strong and powerfully beautiful, Amy is lovely as can be, Erika is like that bratty hottie we knew in high school lol, Xiao is like the beautiful Japanese goddess, Gloria is of course legendary, Kat has such a great design, and probably my favorite, the Greek Goddess Pandora,,, has the legs that never end! Plus I'm 1/4 greek so I LOVE her costume! They're all just so well designed too, including some of the male characters like Yamato and Max. Let me know what your guys favorites are I'm super interested to hear.

Onto the gameplay of each PS3 game, so, obviously Out of Bounds has just 6 base courses so the challenge mode gets repetitive and it's shorter than other games. There aren't items or points etc, you're just playing golf and leveling up. BUT, because of this, I found this to be the most casual fun of the games. The advanced hitting system feels so real and I loved learning the timing. Once you get that down, this is a pretty easy game! The DLC courses are pretty nice too.

World Invitational goes the other way however... It's by far the hardest golf video game I've ever played. The crowns, oh my god. I played every day for about 4 hours for 2 months before I finally beat the game and got the final costume from Izzak. I still never got ALL the crowns since you can skip a few to beat the game 100% essentially. The many hitting modes also are what makes this the best game ever in the series, you can swing with so many different styles! The points make it feel worth it to have some for fun rounds outside of the challenge, and the new colors and costumes made me feel like it was really worth it to 100% this game. They gave us everything here, better graphics, more features, amazing character voices and animations, more courses, new ways of challenging ourselves, beautiful golfers, a whole new system of getting items, for that reason I think this is the best game in the series but,,, for nostalgia sometimes I feel Open Tee 2 on PSP still is the best.

Anyways, if anyone managed to read all of this and wants to share your love of these games, I really appreciate it. These games kinda saved my life when i lost my first fiancee several years ago, especially when winter time came and I couldn't hit the links and golf for real. I'm hoping at least 1 person feels the same way and the legacy of these game are just as important to them as me. I never played the PS4 one cause I never got a PS4, mostly a pc gamer now but, luckily I have a switch and love the Easy Come Easy Golf, but I'm not 100% done with it so, can't fully judge. But I'd put it as maybe the 4th best one, right above Everybody's Golf 3, and right below Out of Bounds.

I am a bit traditional and personally find Hot Shots Golf 3 & 4 to be the best. I've played 3,4 Out of Bounds & EG 2017

Hot Shots Golf 3 is by far the most "Competitive". The best mix of skill, and risk & reward. No adjusting shots. No unnecessarily unfair greens/courses. No rainbow shots or anything of the like. Pure skill and golf.

And I think 4 is best for just overall content. A bit more casual and approachable and tons of courses and characters. No other game comes quite close in variety minus DLC I believe. Sure they are a bit old, but luckily ps2 graphics hold up much more than Ps1 and older.

Im with you there on 3 being like, 'fair competition' I mean, World Invitational is just ridiculously hard. Like ragequit hard. They expect people to have mastered the game series by then to play that game properly. 4 I sadly never got, and it's 1 of the few games I've ever tried to play via pcsx2 emulation that doesn't work. I checked the forums and everything, and HSG4 literally doesn't work on emulators :( But it came out at around the same time as the PSP ones, I've watched gameplay of it and it's basically the same as the PSP Open tee games. If youve never played those and you think that's the best 1, trust me Open Tee 2 will be a worthy play

I have a hack for HSG4 that should improve the performance for you. The way the game renders shadows breaks the emulator. One of the very few games that PCSX2 can't handle. Meanwhile Out of Bounds runs like the best on Ps3 emulations.

But yeah first go into hw hacks and disable depth emulation. See how that treats you, if you want, I can also upload the hack cheat file I should still have around for you too.

Also a random thought/thing I noticed about Out Of Bounds, and maybe World Invitational might be the same, haven't found an upload of that game to try yet. There is ALWAYS wind. It's never not windy. It's a weird thing to point out but I feel like it never gives you break with no wind or very light wind. 99% of holes have at least 3-4+ meter winds. I don't mind challenging gameplay, since that's what I like. But that alongside the dumb looking greens makes it obvious they were trying to hamfist difficulty back in, because they made the core game too easy.

Yeah Out of Bounds runs amazing on PS3, World Invitational you definitely need to have a powerful CPU. I mean, GPU, RAM, no problem, but the CPU useage is always very high on that. When I tried HSG4, it didn't run AT ALL though. It wasn't a matter of being kinda buggy and needing tweaking, it literally doesn't run. But if theres a hack that can fix that Im all in for it.

And I agree on the wind! I think that's kinda just how they wanted the game to play. If you don't like math, you should not play any golf video game honestly but, you need to seriously learn the physics and geometry of the games to master them. Learning how to add together the uphill/downhill, hole distance, wind effectiveness, and club effectiveness. Doing the desert level where you need to hit the fairway and GIR I think was the challenge, and on all 18 holes, from the guides opinion, was the hardest crown, and I gotta agree. You gotta hit 18 perfect tee shots and 2nd shots, and play it extra safe on the Par 5's and don't even think about trying to get on in 2. I played for 4 hours nonstop on stream 1 night to do that one and I actually was gonna end stream after 3, and some friends came so I did 1 more run and I got it.

Luckily I just built a new PC with a 7950x

HSG4 should at least start for you. If you have troubles could maybe help you see if you can't get it working.

Will need to acess old PCs drive because I realize I haven't brought over my emulators. I'll work on getting that file for you.

Here is the patch/cheat file... I honestly forget how they work but if you put it in the folder and have cheats enabled it should work. As long as the ID matches your game or something? I'm sure you can refresh on how they may work if needed. Been awhile for me.

Never cared for the PSP ports. Just getting that out of the way. I haven't played HSG2, EGVR or CHG either, so no comment on those. As for the others:

HSG: It's a pixalited mess. Was happy to get the platinum on the PS4 version and move on with it. I gave it a 6 out of 10.

HSG3: Fun game although impact got difficult with expert characters. I gave it a 7.5 out of 10.

HSG4: My all-time favorite Hot Shots Golf game. Many characters and caddies and it has mini-golf. Definitely a must-have if it ever gets remastered. I gave it a 10 out of 10.

HSG: OoB: Boring music, but a fun game otherwise. I was able to beat all the challenges although some of them were not fun. I gave it a 8 out of 10.

HSG: WI: Music was a million times better. Despite some incredibly difficult crowns, the game was so much fun. The grindfest got boring although I platinumed both versions. I gave it a 9 out of 10.

EG (2017): No idea where to start. Game has bad gameplay issues with bad carry percentages over half the time and horrible sway even on perfect impact hits. Course design for the most part was also very bad. The good parts about the game were the online mechanics as well as the characters themselves. Music was awesome for the most part. Fishing was also a decent time. Making characters was also very fun. I gave this a 8 out of 10 overall.

I would legit buy a new PlayStation exclusively for a HSG4 remaster

u/MoneyTakerBaby avatar

Man youre on point with the OOB music, it definitely was weak sauce for the most part. It's definitely not my favorite of the series but, still feels so nice to play... and I just love playing as Alex. Her stats are just so perfectly balanced,,, on top of the aesthetics, I barely touched any other characters. And World Invitational, yeah it definitely was grindy but, I played it a few hours a day and streamed every minute of it on Twitch and that made it a lot funner, and the music, 100% agreed, that desert level's music is my favorite ever in a HSG game I think! & Man, I need to play HSG4 I guess.

Ill copy what I wrote to someone else, 4 I sadly never got, and it's 1 of the few games I've ever tried to play via pcsx2 emulation that doesn't work. I checked the forums and everything, and HSG4 literally doesn't work on emulators :( But it came out at around the same time as the PSP ones, I've watched gameplay of it and it's basically the same as the PSP Open tee games.

All it takes is a non-HDTV, a PS2, and a lot of happiness for HSG4. The TVs are not completely obsolete yet.

HSG3 & Fore! were awesome. Played those two a lot with friends. They all loved it and got their own copies. I appreciated the fact that an albatross was hard to come across. I think these were the best golf games at the time. I played with Louise on HSG3. And every time I witness a birdie in person I say, “birds a chirpin’”as my caddie Mel would say.

This newest one, Everybody’s Golf, is the only video game I play any longer. I’m not a huge fan of the create a character stuff personally, but I like the courses and the changes in difficulty. I think the gameplay is great but the lack of support stinks (as some of the achievements are no longer possible).

Anyway, hope you have a speedy recovery!

u/MoneyTakerBaby avatar

Lol thats hilarious, the birds do be a chirpin! the caddies and characters personalities are definitely 1 of the best things about the series, thats why I put so much time into writing about them. I can appreciate not caring about the aesthetics or the 'skins', cause in a lot of games I dont,,, I rarely transmogged and whatnot in Warcraft when I played it for example. But I think because golf games are so simplistic, having something extra to chase for besides just your score and winning like unlocking characters, balls, clubs, and outfits, gave me extra motivation to grind! & thanks much appreciated :) Someday Ill probably get the PS4 one but, I just dont play consoles much now.

Oh and if you didnt know about it, they did make a newer one, newer than Everybodys Golf on PS4. I actually found out about it like 2 months ago after googling around to see if they were making a PS5 one, turns out they dont work with Sony currently and they made 1 thats either on android/iphone, or Nintendo Switch! Clap Hanz Golf AKA Easy Come Easy Golf, it came out september of this year! Wasnt sure if you knew about that or not but I can give you deeper details of that game if you want

Out of bounds and world invitational got hundreds of hours from me. Open tee 1 and 2 were great too

u/MoneyTakerBaby avatar

Right on, same here, just put so much time into those... and I streamed every second! I was suprised how many people had played those games! I think it would be hard to play open tee on a real psp with the smaller screen but, if people play it now on ppsspp it's infinitely better!
