Summary

  • Snowpiercer season 4 was canceled by TNT but has now been renewed by AMC.
  • AMC has acquired the rights to all four seasons of Snowpiercer and will air seasons 1-3 in before debuting season 4 on July 21.
  • The core cast from season 3 is expected to return for season 4, but it's unclear if Sean Bean's character will be back. Two new actors have been added to the cast. The story will likely take a wild new direction in season 4.

Snowpiercer season 4 was due to return on TNT, but was canceled by parent company WBD in January 2023 — now it has found a new home on AMC. Snowpiercer season 3 was a monumental chapter that saw the return of Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly), who was believed dead. In an incredible twist, Melanie turned on Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) and sabotaged his plan to bring the train to New Eden in the Horn of Africa, which is believed to be a warm spot on the frozen Earth where they can settle.

Life on Snowpiercer is never static and season 3 ended with the most seismic shift of the show's status quo heading into Snowpiercer season 4. This made the cancelation of Snowpiercer by TNT especially shocking as the story was by no means done when the show came to its abrupt unplanned conclusion. However, neither the fans nor the cast of Snowpiercer have given up on the show, and the popular dystopian sci-fi hi has landed a new home for its final season.

Snowpiercer Season 4 Cast

Who Will Return For The Final Time?

Snowpiercer's core season 3 cast is expected to return for season 4, and that includes Jennifer Connelly as Malanie Cavill, who was absent for most of seasons 2 and 3. However, after the events of Snowpiercer season 3's finale, it's unclear what the status of Sean Bean's Mr. Wilford will be or if he returns in season 4. Many other cast members exited Snowpiercer in season 3, including Archie Panjabi, Annalise Basso, and Steven Ogg. While anything can happen in Snowpiercer, it's unlikely their characters will return.

It is known that Snowpiercer season 4 is adding two new actors, Michael Aronov and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Clark Gregg. Outside the new cast members and confirmed character exits, the cast for Snowpiercer season 4 is likely to be the same as that of prior seasons. With the episodes already shot, it's also unlikely that there will be any last-minute recasts.

Snowpiercer Season 4 Story

How Will The Series Wrap Up?

Melanie looks over a balcony with a smug look on her face in Snowpiercer

The Snowpiercer season 4 story is likely to be a wild new direction. Snowpiercer's paradigm is constantly evolving and, by the end of Snowpiercer season 3, it completely changed again. After Layton killed Pike, he fell into a coma and realized he made up New Eden. Meanwhile, Wilford deduced that Melanie was alive and Snowpiercer mounted a rescue operation to bring their Head Engineer back aboard. Melanie decided that Layton's New Eden plan was dangerous and she exposed his lie.

She took control of the train and set up another conflict between herself, Layton, and Wilford. Snowpiercer season 3 ended with half of the train's passengers following Andre Layton, while the rest remained aboard under Melanie Cavill's guidance. Snowpiercer season 3's final scene jumped ahead three months to show Melanie seeing a missile launched into the atmosphere, which could mean there's another previously unknown pocket of human survivors in the world. What this could mean for Snowpiercer season 4 is unknown, but now fans will get a chance to find out.
