A lot of interesting facts about Hakkou tin history in Ipon. We were so surprised by the fact that one tin prospector's daily salary was 1 dollar, which could buy 100 meals under the price level back then! Totally beyond my husband and I's expectation. If you would like to hear more stories about Hakkou tin history, you definitely should make a reservation and visit!

Was on an extended family (there were 12 of us) trip to Malaysia. Lost World of Tambun was the second stop. Thumbs up to Amy and Alya who processed our check-in with a smile.
The rooms were ok however my wife and I were given a room that was opposite rooms that were undergoing renovation where there was a lot of renovation noises such as knocking and banging. Lost World of Tambun - Please make sure that you do not do this to other guests.
Otherwise, the Theme Park and Water Park were great and the staff manning them were really very nice and friendly.
Recommended for families who do not want to contend with the crowds at Sunway Lagoon though there are no shopping centres nearby there are a lot of rustic places to visit and makan.

Fascinating temple in the cave, and the family enjoyed the opportunity to explore the limestone up close. But somehow it's the approach out of the cave and into lush garden greenery which makes it feel just a little bit magical.
Kids enjoyed spotting fish and turtles in the lake, and trying the reflexology walk (ouch!).

A highlight in Ipoh. It's well worth climbing the steps to the top. And the traditional Chinese fortune teller there was amazing. Go during the week when it's not so crowded.

The magnificent view of Taiping Lake Garden are charming and calming. The old trees from British era, few hundred years old are still preserved. Cleaned and well maintained. Never to miss if you are in Taiping.

Nice an well maintained caves . Took Tour 2 due to the raining season but it was fairly easy with lots of steps that makes you sweat a lot at the end. However, there is suitable lighting and we were able to appreciate the awesome caves but sad to see graffiti on some of the areas. Wish management were a little strict to monitor and clean it. Saw a guide that didn't reprimand some kids on a tour that didn't follow the instructions and sneaked out of the path. Anyway, it's a good experience for 2 hours. There is very limited option for food or water so bring your own.

While Penang has long been well-known for street art, Ipoh also has its fair share of murals. Interesting paintings depicting daily life of Ipoh residents are available in the old town. Searching for artworks while exploring the former mining city is an enjoyable experience.

After a hefty meal at Canning Dim Sum, Yus & I decided to visit the Concubine Lane as it’s one of the top tourist spots in Ipoh. It was really difficult to find parking, especially on a Friday afternoon. However, we found one but it was far from our destination. Thereafter, we headed on foot & asked the locals how to get to Concubine Lane.

Oddly enough, some of them don’t even know where it is. In actual fact, Concubine Lanes is an area comprising 3 separate lanes that are within walking distance to one another. Wife Lane is known as “Lorong Hale”, Concubine Lane as “Lorong Panglima” & Second Concubine Lane as “Market Lane.”

Concubine Lane is the most popular amongst the 3. We saw a mural of a man & a woman drinking tea at the famous Wong Koh Kee Restaurant, the oldest shop on the street that sells stir-fried dishes, steamed fish or roast pork. Apparently, 8 of the street art murals were painted by renowned artist Ernest Zacharevic, the Lithuanian Penang-based public artist who became famous by painting a series of murals in Penang.

There were many cafes & interesting street food along the road as well. Some were selling crispy baby crab, Tanghulu which is a traditional Chinese snack from the South Song Dynasty & Jelly Balls, a sweet dessert stacked on a stick.

If you’re looking for souvenirs to bring back home, chances are you will be pleasantly surprised with what Concubine Lane has to offer. There are probably more than 20 souvenir shops to choose from! I bought a new boardgame which tries to ascertain what your friends really think of you. I’m sure the game will start a few arguments between us. There was also an Adult card game which I thought was a hoot & funny. Yus gifted me with a wooden crafted keychain that bore my name. Apparently, Concubine Lane has the best wood crafting works of art.

If my memory serves me right, we saw 2 museums. One had a huge dinosaur prop at the entrance to capture people’s attention. Another was a 2-storey space that depicted old items found in a local house in the past. However, we didn’t enter both museums.

The Second Concubine Lane or Market Lane is similar to Concubine Lane. However, it has fewer shops & more murals. The most eye-catching thing about the street was the rainbow-coloured papers which were hung from the walls above the shops. Gone were the umbrellas which adorned the street in the past. The 1st mural was of a couple in a coffee shop being served food by a staff. The 2nd was of 2 men. One was sitting down with a bowl to his mouth while the 2nd man was carrying a large pot. The 3rd mural was of 3 children jumping with joy. The 4th was an old lady stirring soya milk while a young boy was squatting on a bench.

As we walked further, we uncovered more works of art on the road. One was the popular Snake & Ladder game & the other was my favourite computer game called Pacman.

In short, it’s best to visit Concubine Lane in the morning when it’s less crowded. You will be able to check out the shops & eateries comfortably & won’t have to queue up long to take photos with the creative murals. Most shops close at 6:00 pm & the place will be deserted by 8:00 pm.

This is one place that everyone should visit as it was voted as one of the top destinations in Perak.
