A sandy barrier peninsula perched on Staten Island's South Shore. Great Kills is known for its abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation. This site was created by Robert Moses and operated by New York City Department of Parks and Recreation between 1947 and 1972. Great Kills Park became part of the National Park Service in 1972 when Gateway National Recreation Area was established. Enjoy the multi-use path, go bird-watching, or simply relax under the sun at the beach. A marina provides access to the harbor for boaters. Parking to fish at Crooke's Point requires a permit.
