7 Months in at PAM Transport

For those thinking of starting in this company, this is not intended to be a recruitment message. This post is solely my personal experiences & comments with this company. You may roast me in the comments or look into PAMT more in detail.

I started working for PAM back in 2021 making .30cpm, 3 months later, .35cpm, then .40cpm 2 months ago, and now .41cpm as of last week. Most people complained about the cpm starting off. I ran GMB out of one of our locations for a month. Worked 4/5 days & made 1200/week for just about 400 miles daily. I came back to OTR & now make on average 800-900/weekly. I think that's pretty good for 7 months in. I enjoy the OTR life a little bit more though so the price cut doesn't bother me. The people here are awesome if you don't bullshit around, work your 11 (or 14) & get to those appointments on time (don't be on time, be early). I've broke down a few times with my first set of trucks & without skipping a beat they'll grab a motel & a rental car depending on a few circumstances, i.e. home time. Respect goes a long way in this company & though the cpm is not the best for some people, I tend to not want to Kurt Cobain myself like others have stated in this company.

With that out of the way. If you currently work for PAMT, have worked in the past, or have seen a PAMT doing dumb shit. Pass along your "horror stories" in the comments.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this company has fuel & safety bonuses so you can easily make $4,000/monthly

That pay is atrocious. It was 5 years ago and it's even more so now. You have enough experience now to find a better company. 50cpm is easy to find. 60cpm is a bit harder and depending on your area you can find even higher that that. 1cpm is about equivalent to 1k a year. You are losing 19k a year by staying with a bottom feeder.

If he can wait 5 months crete will pay .64cpm to start and .67cpm for shaffer

OP needs to get 12 months clean then jump to Crete. You’ll be netting $1,500 a week. No hassle.

That’s horrible pay man. They fucking you with no lube. Go to indeed.com and you’ll see tons of job listings that are minimum over 60cpm with little to no experience

Sorry in advance if I’m hijacking your thread but I got my official offer letter a couple days ago, on my way to train at Trainco in Ohio on the 7th of March.

How would you rate your training once you got into a company truck and how would you rate the training there and how long was it really? And I know you had said you had issues with your equipment, what did they put you in after you went solo?

People have bad things to say about PAM they gave me a chance when a bunch of others wouldn’t so I’m grateful, but I’m just going here for the learning experience rather than money at this point, I know the money will come in trucking with experience, but I wouldn’t be able to get the experience if it wasn’t for PAM giving me a chance.

I had an awesome Mentor. Training was 10/10 as the mentor told me everything I needed to know. If you don't know much about trucking & the way the truck & trailer works, it'll be a struggle. I trained on an LTO Mentor's International & drive a 2022 Peterbilt. I started with a 2020 Peterbilt for the first few trucks. Like every job, you might get a terrible mentor, you might get a good one. Training is 14 days. You might be doing a "Team Training" or you might do "Solo Training". Like my mentor, it was up to him how his truck rolled. Other mentors are different.

.30cpm in 2021 is atrocious. I started at .41cpm in 2015

PAM is a good starting point. I enjoyed my time working there. I ran a dedicated lane from Cleveland to Nashville for General Motors parts. I loved it. Pay was eh but the run was a good run. I live kinda in between those two points on the map so even though it was considered OTR I made it home just about every day. Then the pandemic hit and PAM lost that dedicated route.

Long story short, I moved on to find a much much much better paying dedicated lane with a different company. I’d say get your two years with PAM then really consider moving on elsewhere. You can make 2-3x as much as your making with PAM at some places. .55-.65 is a good range to look for.

I would not recommend PAM. It if it works for you driver I support it! I had a run in with a driver from PAM in Laredo by y’all terminal lol

1 Driver = Whole Company Bad. Love it.

I hear your point but unless you're just trying to notch that 6mos to 1yr then head into making 100k+ elsewhere You could do just as well pulling 40 hours at a factory plus a side gig. More if you know where to look.

I'm glad it's working out for you. The few times my truck died were literal nightmare fuel because they only want to put in one day at a time, and never sent a credit card authorization to get me in without it taking 4 hours for no reason. Their communication is absolute garbage. They hang up the phone after like 2 minutes or take 30+ minutes to respond to a Qualcomm message.

Theoretically if you still like them after a year, ask if they'll up your pay to 60cpm and if not, quit and wait a few weeks and try to get rehired. Should get 60cpm then. I worked Walmart popup most of the time I was there, and it was seriously the only way I could get anything done with them. Pays like 850pw after taxes.

The night shift is garbage 8/10 times, there's a few on the night that will get things done. Picture that episode of SpongeBob where his brain was on fire...that explains it

Bruv. I was making $800-$900/week way back in 2018. The same position at my company today is making $1100-$1400/week for essentially SE regional OTR with hometime every weekend. I moved over to LTL at the same company a year in and am making… substantially more.
