Not to be confused with A very British Scandal 😂!
I was going to post it next 😂
Oh god what is the difference? Are they both movies? I'm genuinely curious but afraid to google it
As far as I know, "A Very British Scandal" is a follow-up to this show, but it has nothing to do with it. It's a completely different story, being based on the real divorce of Ian Campbell, Duke of Argyll and Margaret Campbell, Duchess of Argyll, taking, of course, liberty in portraying the whole case.
I watched without even knowing there was "A Very English Scandal", but definitely enjoyed it!
This was great and was the first time I finally got to see Hugh act in a different way. He is super talented when he wants to be! I’ll always love him from 4 Weddings but he’s also awesome at playing complicated villains

Based on: A Very English Scandal by John Preston
Review: Simply excellent, A Very English Scandal is a captivating and brilliantly executed TV series that tackles a serious topic with a touch of British humor. Hugh Grant delivers a standout performance as Jeremy Thorpe, showcasing his versatility beyond romantic comedies. The series expertly navigates the scandal that rocked British political circles in the 1970s, offering a blend of dark humor, gripping court scenes, and nuanced character portrayals. Ben Whishaw shines as Norman Scott, adding depth to the narrative. Directed by Stephen Frears and supported by a talented cast, A Very English Scandal is a must-watch for its engaging storytelling, impeccable acting, and witty script, making it a truly enjoyable and satisfying viewing experience.
I loved the bit about Arthur Gore, 8th Earl of Arran and his passionate support of badgers.
This sounds dumb but I’ve never watched it because I don’t like the idea of Hugh Grant as a murderer lol
But he's a charming murderer
He will always be Charles in 4 weddings to me!!!
He contains multitudes :) and the series is fabulous
There’s another film based on a true story. It’s sad and poignant. It’s set in 1950s Britain where homosexuality was a crime punishable by prison. A Very British Sex Scandal (2007)
If you enjoy this story there’s a great podcast series called British Scandal, there’s also American Scandal but they do fantastic storytelling of scandals. I listened to the Jeremy Thorpe episodes and my mouth kept dropping open in shock on my walks lol.
