The Cleveland Show: Season 1 Reviews
[I]t's a little warmer and sillier than Family Guy.

There are a lot of elements that make The Cleveland Show seem like it should work better than it does, but as a whole, it hasn't quite managed to stand up and differentiate itself enough from its parent show to be taken as its own thing.

There's a lot to like here. It might take a while for the show to grow out of its Family Guy shadow, but with a greater focus on wacky family focused stories, we might get to see much personality burst out of of the normally sedate Cleveland.

The show has a soft and sweet center... But this positive message is almost completely buried in sophomoric humor, and it's hardly worth the effort to sift through the dreck to get there.

Has anybody noticed what a patronizing mess Seth MacFarlane's new The Cleveland Show is?

"The Cleveland Show" makes a few meta jokes about how it knows it's racist, which completely absolves it of racism! She how that works! Seth MacFarlane: Genius.

The Cleveland Show has more warmth that flows from its gentle title character, Cleveland Brown

If "The Cleveland Show" isn't quite as sharp-tongued or focused yet as "Family Guy," it's got the eccentricity to fit into broadcast television's most off-center evening.

If Fox trusts MacFarlane, that's good enough for me.

You don't really have to be a reactionary to find MacFarlane's comedy revolting, or to see his "art" as the mass-media equivalent of peddling smut to kids, do you?

In three episodes, there's hardly a laugh to be found. Bad taste, we'll accept. Boring we won't.

The much larger problem is that Cleveland isn't an inherently interesting, or, worse, funny, character.

It's an acquired taste, but in fundamental commercial terms, it ought to fit right in with Fox's animation block.

The guess here is that if you don't know anything about "Family Guy," you'll be watching another network anyway.

"Family Guy" might have pulled it off; here it's just boring.

For a certain segment of the audience - men, boys, evil babies, talking bears - it's likely to go over quite well.

These aren't the kind of lines likely to turn Chris Rock crazy with jealous rage, but "The Cleveland Show" makes its point.

Yeah, sure, I hated myself for laughing. But, hey. I'm sorry. What can I say? I laughed.
