About the author
Daniel Antoniazzi is the author of the Fantasy-Adventure series, "The Imperial Metals." The first three books, "Within the Hollow Crown," "A Dagger of the Mind," and "The Dragon and His Wrath" and the novella, "Much Ado About a Couple of Things" are all available for Kindle.
Daniel was born, much to the regret of anybody who doesn't like him, in New York City. After bouncing back and forth between Manhattan and Caxias do Sul, Brazil (true story,) he finally decided to grow up in Merrick, New York (with the helpful input of his parents.)
He endured four winters at Cornell University, earning his B.S. in Child Psychology and his Ph.D. in B.S. Upon graduation, he immediately fled to sunny Los Angeles, which he now calls home. He plans to one day become a bicoastal sensation. Until then, he'll just have to endure the constant 72-and-sunny weather of southern California.
When he's not writing whimsical Fantasy-Adventure novels that you really should check out instead of reading his biography, Daniel writes screenplays, stage plays, and the occasional limerick. You can follow Daniel on Twitter @danantoniazzi or check out his webpage at danielantoniazzi.com.

There are (see) a number of reasons to believe the truth of this lesson. Unfortunately, Daniel Antoniazzi's writing sits squarely amongst those lessons. The world building here is better than decent. Verging on downright good now and then. The humor, though perhaps a little too frequent and sometimes overly dry, is a pleasant diversion - though for a fantasy tale it relies far too heavily on things that exist in our world and thus, entirely outside of the context of the tale itself. Metaphors relying on things from our very real world are not a good way to infuse a fantasy tale with humor.
But the worst drag on these tales is the writing itself. Perhaps the author was aiming for an old-world, fairy tale like take. This might be the case. However, it kills the pacing of the tale. Frequent phrases, such as "There are places in the world" and "There were reasons for" slam the breaks on the story and remind us that we not immersed in a world in which things of importance are happening but rather experiencing things through the eyes of a narrator who, now and then, seems to almost forget where he or she was in the tale and struggle to find footing once more.
I almost gave this two stars. But for the world building and the somewhat interesting premise I would have done.
A powerful new enemy is rising and familiar characters are joined by new faces as they must work together to stop the impending apocalypse. This book does a great job of remembering the elements that made the first book fun while still adding its own twists and turns to keep things fresh. Daniel does a great job of weaving his intricate plot through the book, giving you plenty of clues as to where he's heading, without telegraphing every punch. But even a savvy reader will find a surprising twist or two. If you enjoyed the first book, this one brings back the same wit and fun as we romp around the kingdom of Rone and the rest of this vast world.
I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series.
If you have read WtHC, you should definitely read this. It places the events of that book in a broader context.
This book seems to have fewer footnotes than its predecessor, so for those reviewers who were turned off by the footnotes but liked the book otherwise, you should give this one a shot. (Although I don't really understand that complaint since the footnotes are easy enough to avoid reading if that's your preference.)
Looking forward to the next one.
As with the first book, you can still see some plot points coming from a million miles away, but that doesn't detract from the satisfaction of watching this story unfold and there were enough unexpected twists to keep you on your toes.
And, of course, the footnotes were a fun addition that really added to the story. Can't wait for number 3!
Love this author's sense of humor in the story.
A great evil threatens the world with a twist, the protagonists can be infected to join the evil due to what is in their heart.
