Biography[]

Jonathan Nolan was born in London, England, to an English father and American mother. He carries dual citizenship in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Nolan was raised in the Chicago area, and is writer-director-producer Christopher Nolan's younger brother. Unlike the elder Nolan, Jonathan Nolan was educated principally in the U.S., and speaks with an American accent.

Collaboration with Christopher Nolan[]

Nolan began writing fiction, and soon transitioned to film, where he has worked with his brother. Nolan's short story Memento Mori was used by the elder Nolan as the basis for the critically acclaimed film Memento. Although Nolan did not share any screenwriting credit for the film or the original screenplay, the Nolan brothers shared a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Writing (Original Screenplay) because the movie was released before the story was published. In 2005, Nolan and his brother co-wrote the screenplay for The Prestige, which is based on a book by Christopher Priest. Nolan co-wrote, along with his brother, the screenplay for the 2008 film The Dark Knight. The film went on to become the most financially successful Batman movie of all time. Nolan and his brother also wrote the screenplay for The Dark Knight Rises. Jonathan Nolan is the co-author of the screenplay for Interstellar, Christopher Nolan's latest film, due for release in November 2014.
