When Hendrik I van Brabant hertog van Neder-Lotharingen was born in 1165, in Brabant-sur-Meuse, Meuse, Lorraine, France, his father, Godfried III van Leuven-Brabant hertog van Neder-Lotharingen, was 23 and his mother, Margaretha van Limburg, was 27. He married Mathilde de Boulogne-Alsace about 1180. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 5 September 1235, in Köln, Rhineland, Prussia, Germany, at the age of 70, and was buried in Löwen, Willebadessen, Kreis Warburg, Westphalia, Prussia, Germany.
