Richard is an award-winning American voice, theater, television and film actor, perhaps best known as Dr. Mar Devanow in the TV series “Mad About You” (1992-1999), and as Andy in the TV series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (2002-2021), in addition to many other roles that he’s secured so far in his career.

Richard Bruce Kind was born on 22 November 1956, in Trenton, New Jersey, USA. He is the son of Samuel Kind, a former owner of the La Vake’s Jewelry in Princeton, and his wife Alice, a homemaker. Although born in New Jersey, Richard spent his childhood with his younger sister Joanne in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, in the neighborhood of Pennsbury Heights.
He went to Pennsbury High School, where one of his classmates was Robert Curtis Brown, a future famed television and theater actor. After matriculating in 1974, Richard enrolled at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he studied pre-law and got his degree in 1978. Before university, Richard tried himself as an actor, and worked in the theater for ten years, including while stydying, before he got a chance to showcase his skills on television.
After university, Richard joined The Second City in Chicago.
Career Beginnings
Richard launched his career in the mid-‘80s when he portrayed District Attorney Turpin in the drama film “Two Father’s Justice” (1985), which starred George Hamilton, Robert Conrad, and Brooke Bundy.
Two years later, he co-starred in the television comedy movie “Bennet Brothers”, next to George Clooney and Alan North, while in 1988, he was Floyd in the award-winning fantasy-comedy film “Vice Versa”.
Before the ‘80s ended, Richard enriched his portfolio with the role of Jimmy Bello in the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated TV crime-drama series “Unsub” (1989), with David Soul, Jennifer Hetrick and Joe Maruzzo in the lead roles.
He began the ‘90s with a role in the comedy-drama film “Queens Logic” (1991), which starred Kevin Bacon, Linda Fiorentino and John Malkovich, then in 1992, he secured his first major role when selected for the part of Dr. Mark Devanow, the ex-husband of Leila Kenzie’s character in the TV sitcom “Mad About You”.

Rise to Prominence
The series “Mad About You” (1992-1999, 2019) went on to attain world fame, and with that, Richard rose to stardom as an actor. He appeared in over 50 episodes of this Primetime Emmy Award-winning series, and got himself a SAG award nomination in 1995.
Concurrently, from 1993 to 1995, he appeared in six episodes of the popular TV comedy crime-drama series “The Commish”, and then in 1996, he won another major role, as Paul Lassiter in the TV sitcom “Spin City” (1996-2002), appearing in 145 episodes of the award-winning series, pushing him even higher up the popularity ladder. The series starred Michael J. Fox until 2000, when he had to leave the show due to his Parkinson disease-related issues; Charlie Sheen replaced him, but the series was canceled two years later.

From 2014 to 2017, he portrayed Sam Meyers in the TV comedy series “Red Oaks”, subsequently starring in the biopic about John Lennon’s assassination, entitled “The Lennon Report” (2016), co-starring Evan Jonigkeit, and David Zayas, while in 2017, he was Marty in the film “Bernard and Huey”.
