Already had the CD, picked it up on vinyl recently because it was a bargain and I was curious. It sounds even better here. The purple vinyl is sexy. Hearing it this way makes it feel like dadrock for a new generation. Definitely cool. Chances are your dad is already listening to this, its already been 15 years for gosh sakes. Hard to believe its been that long.

A blockbuster from commercial point of view, the second album of STP sold about 6 million units in the US and it debuted at #1 spot on Billboard - so it was a major player of the music industry. That being said musically it's only very good, but not great, there were musically more interesting bands in the alternative scene.

The biggest singles are of course great (Interstate Love Song, Vasoline), but all of them are at least nice (Big Empty, Unglued, the acoustic Pretty Penny) but the album's gem for me is the underrated percussive Lounge Fly with the pulsating rhythm (somewhat of a Soundgarden groove). There is a strong blues influence of blues in Big Empty proving that this form of alternative was a lot based on the past, just not on the '80s.

Lyrically it deals with a lot of personal issues, mostly of singer Scott Weiland and his well-known drug problems and his uncontrollable addiction: Interstate Love Song is about his lies about staying clean, Still Remains about his love towards his wife, while Silvergun Superman and Unglued about shooting drugs, even the intolerance song (Army Ants) has a hint to junkie life, but maybe that's a stratch.

The Seattle Four and The Smashing Pumpkins are more relevant, but STP are also one of the '90s classics.

Greatest songs: Lounge Fly, Vasoline, Interstate Love Song
Least great songs: Still Remains, Army Ants

Scott Weiland was the 90's best vocalist. This album saved me from country music.

This is one of the best albums of the 90's.Many people focus on Scott and rightfully so,as he is very charismatic and all.But the unsung heroes of The Pilots are the DeLeo brothers(Robert/bass and Dean/lead guitar). These guys are serious players. From a guitarist standpoint, the choices of effects that Dean makes are all spot-on("Vasoline" and "Lounge Fly" are great examples of great bass and guitar work). There's not a bad song on this disc and a few classics("Still Remains","Big Empty","Vasoline","Kitchenwares and Candybars").The production is overly clean and the drumming is mediocre, but that's just being picky.Certainly the peak of STP's brilliant career.Don't miss the secret song at the very end of the album.I'ts a gas!

This one is a timepiece forsure. It does what is has to do. A cleaner take on the grunge genre. STP is unfortunately the bastard cousin when looking at Nirvana, Soundgarden, and AIC. Disservice. Strong vocals, slight western tone. Guitar and base shred this entire project. Interstate Love Song might be the greatest grunge song of the 90s, I said it.

Great David Bowie influenced alt-rock album that also blends elements of The Beatles' psych period, alt-country, and Americana. Perhaps the 90's dad album, and for good reason - there's not a single weak track on here, and all of the tracks bring something new and interesting to the table.

When it comes to grunge, I'll always be a Nirvana/Soundgarden kinda guy above all others - never listened to much Pearl Jam or Alice in Chains - but I really like the interesting lineup of influences that Stone Temple Pilots weave into their second album. Besides the big hits, which were hits for a reason obviously - they're damn good - front to back this is a no-nonsense, killer filler affair that never outstays its welcome. Most 90s acts would kill for an album this lean and mean.
