At the JW Marriott St. Maarten Beach Resort & Spa, guest feedback indicates that the service is a hit or miss, with accolades for the staff's friendliness contrasted by reports of room and check-in issues. While the pools and loungers are often lauded for their pristine condition, the presence of construction and some amenities being off-limits have disappointed several guests. Opinions on cleanliness and atmosphere are divided; some guests commend the spotlessness, and enjoy the poolside tunes, while others encounter inconsistency and describe the vibe as unwelcoming. Room quality receives mixed reviews, and the sense of value is contentious, with some guests feeling the prices are steep, especially when certain amenities are not available.

Upon the arrival at apxm 12 pm we were greeted with very friendly staff, the front desk young lady was very polite during check in and told us that the room was not ready and we will be contacted by phone to let us know when that will be, so we headed to pool to wait. At 4 pm , when we were not contacted by anyone. We headed to the front desk again. We had booked an OCEANFRONT room. We were handed the keys to our room at 4:30. When we got to the room, not only wasn’t it oceanfront, it did not even have a view, was all the way at the beginning of the resort, the furthest from the ocean, and in some corner. Obviously we came back to the front desk, at that point we were given ridiculous explanations and excuses as to thus room being oceanfront , and that their website categorizes incorrectly ,etc….. , we would have non of that and told them that oceanfront means an ocean in the front, it obviously escalated to management, at this point we were very frustrated, only to be made fools of and not give us the room which we paid for and telling us us that we were
Manager did fix this after another 20 min wait in the lobby. So we finally got the room that we paid for
The resort is beautiful, so clean and the rooms are brand new. The staff is so accommodating and try to please. The ocean is very rough, but the pool area is gorgeous with lots of very comfortable loungers
The construction is not an issue, you hardly see it or hear it. If you rent a car, the valet parking is complementary. Would I recommend this hotel, yes I would , for an upscale experience, just be careful as to the tricks they play with room assignments and make sure you get what you booked

We have been here going into our 2 week! Our day starts at 0600 with Yoga on the beach with Don….he is an amazing Yogi! I will return to Canada and continue to developed my practice. Then off to the gym which is well equipped! Then coffee and croissants on the beach! Then off to excercise with Jana in the pool. Then either explore the island or just read on the ocean beach where there is a few local dogs that are very entertaining! … Rodney and Serggio and Astanti are great beach hosts and we are feeling very fortunate to have these warm and caring people make our vacation special! We love St Martins!

Did they have some start up issues, yes.
The most glaring was at check in. The desk clerk knew very little about their job. Having Ambassador status I had to go back to the desk multiple times to get benefits associated with the status. Breakfast coupons the most important.
However, I expected a few minor issues with it being a new hotel. The property is fantastic, rooms awesome, staff occasionally ignorant but very friendly. Willing to admit to lack of knowledge, escalated to do what was best for the guest, even at the risk of being slightly embarrassing. Given a few months and this will be an outstanding JW property.

Stayed March 2-9, everything about this resort was horrible! Stay away! We booked an oceanfront room which was very expensive and when we went to go to the room there was some one else’s belongings in the room, so they gave us another room and that room has some ones belongings in that room, finally ended up in a room that was not ocean front but was sick of things at that point and the girl at the front desk said she would have us a room the next day. So we packed up our things to move the next day and they said they would put our things in the right room. Get back to the hotel after being gone all day and they don’t have a room. So ended up in a room that was not ocean front for our entire stay and they never changed the rate. The fire alarm went off every day, woke us up two of the days. The cleaning staff never cleaned our room so I would have to go hunt down clean towels every day and leave the dirty ones in the hallway. Every aspect of this resort was dirty, the hallways were not vacuumed, glass not cleaned on doors, floors not mopped, trash not emptied. Just yuck!! Would not recommend staying here and I would never come back!!!!

Caveat on this review (F&B issues). This is a newly renovated property and the hotel staff as well as the hotel at 100% JW Marriott quality. The rooms are sterile cleaned, well stocked with all amenities, housekeeping is great including one of the remaining few post-pandemic properties that include daily housekeeping INCLUDING a turn down service. The lobby bar has a great bartender (Kevin) who got me nice and toasted on my first night. The front desk staff are very polite, the GM and FD Manager both of whom I spoke with (see the caveat below) were extremely attentive to our issue(s) and suggestions regarding the F&B (this is the caveat) staff and service which needs a huge improvement. If you want attitude, try ordering in any restaurant on the property and you'll get attitude. If you ask questions about the menu, you'll get a blank stare until you actually suggest that perhaps the chef be consulted about a meal accommodation. You want room service to be prompt? Forget it, plan on waiting 60 mins to get a simple breakfast. You want your breakfast order to be correct? No chance, you can be certain that it will be incorrect. You want to speak to the F&B Manager regarding half of a $150 breakfast order missing after waiting 60 mins for it, he will be very polite and apologetic and assure you that he will head to the kitchen and get it delivered immediately. The term "immediately" apparently means another 45 mins by which time everything initially delivered is cold. The the GM and the FD manager however understood these issues, assured me that they are working with F&B to make improvements and honestly, I am going to head back in a couple of months just to see how much of an improvement they make. This is a great hotel if you just are prepared to accept the the learning curve of the F&B staff taking a little time to get up to speed and delivery the expected Marriott quality.

My husband just returned yesterday on April 17, 2024. We read so many hot and cold reviews that we were actually hesitant as to what we would experience. So here was our honest experience....it was simply breathtaking! I truly do not know one can say anything negative! Yes there are workers continuing to beautify the Marriott, but never did I feel they were an intrusion, loud or made a difference to our visit. The grounds are so pretty, the pool, the staff, the rooms, the view....everything just lovely.

If I had to say one negative thing, we did not realize this location is a bit remote, so you do have to taxi everywhere you go. There are taxis at all times outside of the Marriott available that you have to pay for. A typical ride one way to a restaurant is $25-$30 or can be $10 if you go down the hill. You can not simply walk to a bar or restaurant from the Marriott location.

But do enjoy Big Fish, Ocean 82 and Mamas Pizza!!!

Just returned from a 4 night weekend trip to JW Marriott. We are used to better hotels like JW and Ritz Carlton. This property is brand new and beautiful. The staff is very friendly and they can’t do enough for you. All of the construction is complete. Since it was the first week in May the hotel was very quiet. We are platinum elite members and had an ocean view reservation so they upgraded us to an ocean front room with a balcony which was very spacious. The hotel is a bit remote. If you want to go to the better restaurants you will need to travel 25-30 minutes. We took a 25 minute taxi ride to dinner a few nights to Grand Case. One night we ate at their signature restaurant Liguria which was excellent. The last night we ate close by at Mamas Pizza which is a very casual outdoor restaurant. Pool is very nice with comfortable padded lounge chairs. Beach is small and nice but surf can be a little rough. One day we took a 15 minute taxi ride to Orient Beach which I would highly recommend. Otherwise we had a relaxing vacation at this beautiful resort hotel.

Pros: The employees are very nice and are really trying. Cons: The hotel is not ready for guests. The employees are trying to make it work without having the tools. The rooms are not ready for occupancy so instead of getting what you booked, you get what’s leftover. When you get a room either items in the room don’t work or the room isn’t fully clean. It took several room changes and support from maintenance, cleaning staff, and management to find one that was right. Electricians and workers were working in the hallway with guests. Multiple guests were upset with their rooms and the atmosphere.

The employees are lovely and really trying. Corporate Marriott made a mistake opening and should not be charging prime pricing when things aren’t ready. I think in several months it will be nice. Also it is not walkable near the hotel and it’s far from most restaurants. Recommend obtaining a rental car if staying there.

Starting off by entering the resort we were greeted by a very friendly and professional security team at the gate, in the parking garage and throughout the resort. The food selection at the brunch was exceptional as was the flavor of the food. Esmeralda and Juliet, the hostess and waitress, were friendly and attentive. The whole experience exceeded our expectations. Can’t wait to go again.

Just returned from a seven-night stay at the newly opened JW Marriott. The hotel was new, clean and the staff was amazing. Only half of hotel was open, so it was quiet, anyone posting pictures of unfinished areas walked over to the part of the hotel that was not even open! There was no construction noise or even anything we could see. Our room was amazing, anything that was not right the staff quietly corrected to make it right. Tricky part is that some of their "ocean front" rooms are really ocean view, so you may want to get clarity. Drinks and food were delicious. We did rent a car to get around on the island and the valet was very convenient. Shout out the Stevenson who made our trip extra special. A special thank you to Panderang, he by far was the best employee that hotel has! We will definitely be back.
