Editorial Reviews
These deluxe editions include the original albums remastered and recut from the original tapes, alongside previously unreleased studio outtakes and demos, and complete unreleased live shows. It’s a treasure trove of material for their feverish fan base, and the first ever deep dive into one of the most influential bands from the 70’s Warner catalog.

The remastered and expanded version of this classic album is welcome if a bit of a mixed bag. The former because we get seven live tracks from a show at a Paul’s Mall in Boston. There are also a couple of unreleased alternate mixes. The latter because the rest of the outtakes appeared on one of the two boxed sets (the boxed Hotcakes and Outtakes and/or Rad Gumbo the complete Warner albums boxed set).
Given that a lot of these tracks were previously released, it would have made better sense to put these live tracks along with any previously unreleased outtakes/alternate mixes in a boxed set. I don’t know about you but, as much as I love these albums, I don’t know how many reissues of the main album I need.
The mastering is pretty good if a bit in the bright side for me. For the main album, it won’t beat the Mofi but they sound decent.
There’s also a terrific booklet that covers the making of the album.
The Digipak has two plastic holders for the discs.
A classic album (and the first to feature future Fest member Fred Tackett on guitar), this would feature for the first time the ex-Andes line up and a move towards more of a New Orleans/R&B vibe.
Hate you, Warners. Ya made me have to cough-up the dough for real Japanese remasters of the other three, as I wanted to hear them, too, before I'm dead!

I thought it was going to be an introduction to a full revisiting of the Lowell era albums, but no. All went quiet again, until now.
Here we have the best sounding version of this classic album on cd to date. It sounds magnificent. Everything sounds fresh and real. A veil has been lifted, to use a cliche from the world of hifi.
The bonus material consists of studio outtakes, which are interesting in a listen to once or twice sort of way, and live material that has been available on bootleg for years and years.
The live material is worth price of entry alone. Whilst not being multi-track audiophile sonic perfection, this insight into what a Feat show was like back then really delivers the goods and then some. Feat were fond of improv and it’s great to hear where they take the songs. The high energy and enthusiastic delivery more than make up for any sonic imperfections. Having heard the bootlegs I can honestly say that I have never heard the show sound as good as it does here. The live material will get played often.
Thank you Warners for actually delivering a revisited album in a fashion that redresses the inferior sound quality of previous issues in cd and also for giving the fan bonus material that is genuinely well worth owing.
