Liverpool's new boss Arne Slot has previously offered some interesting insight into Manchester United's Tyrell Malacia. The Dutchman knows the defender well from their time together at Feyenoord before the latter's move to Old Trafford in 2022.

But Slot, who was announced as Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool successor on Monday, previously sent the defender a stark warning about one aspect of his game. He praised Malacia for being a "driving force" when the team needed a boost but also pointed out his tendency to be too casual with the ball.

"When we're behind he is typically the player to try and force the issue, or to ignite a spark with a run or a tackle," Slot shared with Dutch outlet Bleed Orange. "[But] I do see him taunt opponents a bit too much."

He continued: "He almost shows too much of the ball, to get them to bite. At times, it's too much. He looks a bit complacent, arrogant even, at times. I talk to him about that."

Malacia's journey at Manchester United has been fraught with challenges, including a string of injuries since his £13million transfer. The 24 year old has missed the entire current season due to knee surgery last summer.

During the previous season, he made 22 appearances for United in the Premier League, starting just 14 as Erik ten Hag often preferred Luke Shaw in the left-back position. The United manager was impressed by Malacia's standout display in a game between Ajax and Feyenoord, prompting him to sign the young Dutch defender.

A viral video clip following Malacia's signing showed Ten Hag pointing out his talent to his then-Ajax assistant Michael Reiziger, saying: "That kid at left back is amazing".
