So excited to see the results up and running and very nice to see Adam Wants to be a Man, and multiple other make the cut. Especially surprised 10 Rillington Place managed to get in. That one has been just shy a few times, right? Maybe I should give The Panic in Needle Park another try.

Baseball stays in
It’s about to fall off 500<400 due to # of checks, so I’m glad it’s hanging around on DtC for a while longer.

Results!
I have partially been using the exercise to determine what country to manage in the next World Cup.
My progress so far:
It's nice to know that my Yemeni pick was relatively close to making the cut, however, the average isn't quite high enough for me to feel comfortable managing Yemen in the next WC. As for my Indian pick, it was mostly a film for which I was curious to see how well it would do with the Indian Subcontinent Challenge also being run last month. I had hoped for a higher average for this one, but Hitchcockian thrillers are not everyone's cup of tea.

Wahey - results time! Thanks Angel
Very pleased that Adam wants to be a man becomes official! Disappointing that Animals was one voter away from making the list but I'm happy it has a chance as a holdover next year. Great start to the results

One out of four, that's not bad. I think Kaul is more or less a safe bet in this forum, as seen by flip's nomination also getting into (which I didn't watch and totally should). Again, Ba shan ye yu will be voted next year. I hope i can give it some visibility in next year's challenge, because I couldn't dedicate much time to watching stuff last month and was out of the challenge early on.
On the overall results, there are some quite interesting and I think it's going well so far. I am not a big fan of 10 Rillington Place, but it is a good and impactful film and I believe it somehow objectively deserved to be there.

Bao gao lao shi! Guai guai guai guai wu managed to get 3,71 with only 7 voters. I know the film can be quite divisive. Still, it gets transformed into 3,51 and does not make it, so with a small number of voters, one bad vote can have a strong effect.
Still, this suggests the film could do better with a stronger viewer base. I'll try and promote it in the future...

Baseball is very high on my watchlist - one of my favourite sports and Ken Burns is reliably good. Sadly his stuff tends to be hard to find and/or very expensive.

Awesome that Magino Village: A Tale finally makes the list. One of my better cinematic experiences, having had the privilege of watching it on 16mm.
The 33rd best Bergman film failed to make the list. What a shame!
Am I the only one who thinks the definition of Canon has jumped the shark? Ginger Snaps (to chose one film at random) is Canon if you ask DTC.

Adomas was my last write-in vote last night, and I'm glad to see it make it in, though it seems it didn't need my vote after all.
And sooooo happy to see Angels in America squeak by.

I'm 5 films away from a bronze in DtC. I'm very excited to see the results roll out, but nervous the goal post is going to run away from me
Oh darn, I'll have to watch more films!
I know this wasn't specifically the point, but I'm OK with Ginger Snaps as canon. I liked it more than many movies on TSPDT. I don't think canon needs to equate to highbrow.

I liked Ginger Snaps and don't have a problem with it being canon either. I'm 191 away from bronze on DTC so achieving that goal is going to have to wait until next year for me, moving goalposts or not.

Whew, that's one of your worst m-word abuses ever. I honestly can't fathom what you find remarkable about this film. Bad animation, bad story and obvious, no-brainer music choices. And it's not even the most renowned Bakshi film.kongs_speech wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 12:58 am I also thought maybe Bakshi's masterpiece would do better.

Damn, 5 of my nominees revealed in one post. Disappointed only one of them got in, but very excited for Berliner Ballade, and can see why that's the one that made it. Shocked Chameleon Street did not make the cut. That's a film I think has a shot at TSPDT eventually, if the rediscovery continues. I wonder what put people off there. With Budapest Tales, yeah, surrealism is not everyone's cut of tea. Maybe I shouldn't have nominated it for the challenge. Dans la nuit getting close gives me hope though. As for Bübchen, another slight surprise, I thought at least it would be closer.
For the other nominees, really happy The Runner and The Innocents - while I just cant believe A Winter's Tale got the boot - we're talking about it in our next Talking Images episide. D
I think Boerensymfonie might have been an old nominee from me getting a revote, really happy it stayed in.

Some excellent films entering the list here! Really happy to see Billy Budd finally make the list. Also pleased to see Fireworks Wednesday, Der Fan, Fort Graveyard, Christiane F and Davandeh make the cut.
Another one of my nominees just missed the 8 vote threshold but at least Bruno Reidal gets a shot next time round as a holdover.
I knew Der Bunker was highly unlikely to make the list but I thought it was worth taking a punt on it. Its strangeness appeals to my sensibilities and I'm glad a lot of people checked it out during the challenge even if it didn't connect with everyone in the same way.
I really enjoyed most of the films you promoted Gloede, and I'm surprised more of them didn't make the cut, Berliner Ballade is a solid addition at least. Dans La Nuit is the one I was most taken with and I am a little disappointed it didn't make it.

Pretty astonished by the low revote score for Dealer, indicates quite a different set of people voting now vs then.

Continued progress:
Calm with Horses is my best performing nominee so far, only just scraping under the qualifying cut-off. Not sure if I'm up to managing Ireland again in the next World Cup, but we'll see how the rest of my nominees perform. Interesting to note that Calm achieved a higher score than Dating Amber; I've been kicking myself for not going with Calm instead last year.
Oh, and I'm claiming Das Beil von Wandsbek as a sol-in-spirit victory since I'm pretty sure I nominated it before in the past.

2019 results:
Code Blue (2011) 4,33 6
extra 5 voters, but no extra love
that sums up my feelings about more of the results so far, including the Rohmer mentioned before...
of course I am happy about what does make it, but aside from the experimental/avant garde crowd, it seems the festival fare kinda arthouse people have indeed moved away somewhat?
or maybe it's too early yet to draw such broad conclusions...

Waititi is not cool anymore for the mainstream since... his last Thor outing I think, but maybe it happened before that even?
Is that what they mean by cancel culture or is it just herd behaviour?

I'm really glad De Uskyldige made it, I thought it was quite divisive.
