McCoy’s Clutch Diving-Catch Over the Fence Punches Hanover’s Ticket to the Regional Semi-Finals

GRANVILLE, Ohio - In the second game of the NCAA Regional Tournament the Hanover Panthers took on the Millikin Big Blue in what would turn out to be a nail biting thriller. The first three innings were slow paced and saw Millikin jump out to a 3-1 lead.

The fourth inning would go on to be the start and finish to Hanover's scoring burst as they found their way home three times. Senior outfielder Eric Roudebush was the first of Hanover's three runners that made it back to home plate, sliding in for a photo finish making it 2-3, still in favor of Millikin. The next two scores would come from senior designated hitter Connor Farnsley and junior catcher Reid Douglas tagging home after a double, hit by junior first-baseman Matthew McCoy. Heading into the fifth, the score was now 4-3, Panthers lead.

The contest went scoreless for the final five innings, as junior pitcher Chris Hautman gave the Big Blue all they could handle on the mound, and the Panthers hitters struggled to make solid contact. However, this did not mean the excitement was over. In the bottom of the ninth, with Big Blue runners on first and second and a full count, junior pitcher Chris Hautman delivered a slider that was hit foul and junior outfielder Matthew McCoy came through with the play of the day. McCoy, full-sprinted towards the first-base fence line, leaped and flipped over the fence to catch the game winning out!

The Panthers now wait to play the winner of Dension and Rowan in the semi-final round later this evening.
