There are many different ways to show a world map, but I'm going to assume you're talking about the popular Mercator projection.

This projection attemps to depict the spherical globe on a rectangle. The problem with this is that it can't be done without distorting the image. When the spherical globe is applied to a rectangular field, areas of the image becomes "stretched" when they are far from the equator. Thus, the land near the north and south poles are very distorted in the Mercator projection.

Since Greenland is so close to the north pole in the Mercator projection, its image is stretched so that it appears large. If you'll notice, the same is true for Antarctica and the northern Canadian islands of Nunavut.

This post was 8 years ago so I hope you no how wrong you are but I’ll lyk just incase. Everyone in this thread is wrong. The earth on the map and the earth on globes is not how the earth looks. Don’t believe me look up United Nations logo. That’s how the real earth looks and should look on a “flat map” saying you have to stretch out an spherical image to make it fit on a flat surface is just not true. Also the same people say the sizes are accurate in google earth/maps, when they aren’t. Greenland, south and North America are the same size or bigger than Africa on modern maps. Wouldn’t you think MAPS OF THE WORLD would be accurate in size? How do you follow the map if the measurements are all wrong? Why did maps from thousands of years ago depict the continents size more accurately than we do now? It’s not because of the “projection” and the “north poles stretch it out” because that’s not fucking real on paper. Doesn’t matter what’s closer to the poles you draw it up the exact same way it looks in real life. If the United Nations Mao doesn’t have a problem with it then neither should modern maps. They do it on purpose. They teach you these maps in school without telling you the sizes aren’t accurate. Or even the locations. The earth looks like nothing you think it is and all of you SHEEP will realize it real soon. Also there is only ONE WAY to show a world map. The correct one. “Many different ways to show a world map” is not true, and the maps aren’t real if the sizes and a distances of the continents and countries are wrong. You’re wrong, and before you talk about something on the internet make sure you didn’t learn it from public school or the media. READ MORE BOOKS

Is this a flat earth rant?

I'm not willing to read it all but it appears so. Also, it's amazing that I stumbled upon such and old thread and it had 2 comments from yesterday haha

Greenland is only as big as the Country of Saudi Arabia. Always keep that as reference.
