The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, were on a three-day trip to the African nation Nigeria since Friday, their first official international tour since stepping back from royal roles in 2020. However, despite the success of their trip, it has also turned out to be highly controversial due to the owner of the airlines who flew them.

A report has said the airline owner is a fugitive who’s wanted in the US for multiple financial crimes. The man in question is Dr Onyema, the owner of Peace Airlines. He’s the subject of a US federal indictment filed back in November 2019, reported by NY Post.

“Charged with bank fraud and money laundering for moving more than $20 million from Nigeria through United States bank accounts in a scheme involving false documents based on the purchase of aeroplanes.” Said the US Department of Justice at the time.

“Notably, the couple was not on a visit on behalf of the UK government or King Charles but rather on an invitation by Nigerian chief of defence staff General Christopher Musa to bring attention to Harry’s Invictus Games. The African country joined last year and will send athletes to the event for the first time when the games are held in February 2025,” said the report.
