WARNING: This article includes spoilers from X-Men '97 season 1, episode 10.

Summary

  • Iceman could return in X-Men '97, with Shawn Ashmore potentially voicing the character.
  • Shawn Ashmore eagerly responded to the idea of voicing Bobby Drake.
  • Marvel fans seem excited at the possibility of Ashmore reprising his role in X-Men '97.

One of the actors from the original X-Men movie trilogy is open to voicing their Marvel character in X-Men '97. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie timeline has yet to bring the X-Men into the fold, Marvel Studios has already had a successful year with the beloved mutants. After a strong ten-episode run, X-Men '97 season 1 is completed, and it is just the beginning for the show, as season 2 is on its way.

During the X-Men '97 season 1 finale, a brief Easter egg displaying Iceman's face was shown, and it didn't take long for passionate Marvel fans to support the idea of Shawn Ashmore voicing his character in the next season. Ashmore, who played Iceman in the original X-Men trilogy, responded to the inquiry as he is more than open to voicing Bobby Drake.

The last time Ashmore portrayed Iceman on the big screen was in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which was the last time most of the original cast appeared in that franchise. In the X-Men: The Animated Series cast, Iceman was voiced by Denis Akiyama, but only appeared in a handful of episodes.

X-Men '97 Season 1 is now available on Disney Plus, and here is everything we know about Season 2's characters, story details, and more.

Why Shawn Ashmore Would Be A Perfect X-Men '97 Iceman Casting

While none of the X-Men movie actors have lent their voices to X-Men '97, there is no reason why the next season couldn't open that door. Even though the X-Men cinematic universe had its many ups and downs, Ashmore's portrayal of Iceman was always one of the more beloved aspects of that film series. Viewers got to follow Bobby from the very beginning of 2000's X-Men all the way through the original X-Men trilogy and see his growth as a character.

Not only would it be fun to have a fan-favorite return to the X-Men property playing the character he portrayed on the big-screen, but X-Men '97 could allow Ashmore's animated version to explore arcs that the films never handled. The live-action movies never explored Iceman's status as a gay superhero from the comics, which could be something for X-Men '97 season 2 to tackle if he becomes a new recurring character. It would also be intriguing to see where this version of Iceman has been up to, given his limited status in X-Men: The Animated Series.

It remains to be seen when X-Men '97 season 2 will even arrive on Disney+, although the wait may not be as long as some expect. Given how Disney+ and Marvel Studios greenlit another season all the way back in July 2022, they are likely closer to being done with X-Men '97 season 2, meaning it could be back as early as the start of 2025. But for now, the world can relive X-Men '97 season 1 exclusively on Disney+ as they get ready for season 2.
