Editor’s Note: On May 31, the deadline for FAFSA applications in Tennessee was extended to Aug. 1, 2024

NASHVILLE, Tenn.(WKRN) — Students in Tennessee seeking financial help for college will now have an extra few weeks to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, commonly known as FAFSA.

According to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, the application deadline has been extended to Friday, May 31. The extension comes after a delay in the release of FAFSA records, which postponed students’ information being delivered to schools.

In fact, the FAFSA typically launches in October, but was delayed due to program updates that made improvements to the online functionality.

Students graduating high school, applying for the Tennessee Promise scholarship, and current college students who are enrolled at either a community college or Tennessee College of Applied Technology all qualify for the application extension.

Families are encouraged to complete the FAFSA application as soon as possible so colleges can begin putting together financial aid offers.
