The Tennessee Titans made a much-needed move on Monday, with the team agreeing to terms with veteran tight end Nick Vannett.
The move was needed because the Titans were lacking a veteran presence in their young tight ends room that is currently headed by third-year player Chig Okonkwo and second-year tight end Josh Whyle, who is a wild card after limited action last season.
Vannett isn’t much of a receiver but is a good pass-blocker. His run-blocking grades leave a lot to be desired, though. Nevertheless, he serves as a good complement to Whyle and Chig.
Vannett has a great shot to secure a spot on the roster and could also push Whyle for the No. 2 role in training camp.
Here’s how we project things to shake out when training camp is all said and done. It’s very possible the Titans only carry three tight ends, but we’ll include four in our projection just in case.
TE1: Chig Okonkwo
TE2: Josh Whyle
TE3: Nick Vannett
TE4: Thomas Odukoya
