I'm not sure if it's for everyone because some scenes are disturbing but I enjoy it. It's also in German but I dont mind english subtitles. It's based on a real life story and kept me interested the entire movie. One of the most interesting stories I've heard in a while.

A gloriously dark and harrowing piece of cinema. Beautifully directed, incredible cast, with just a hint of black comedy to ease some of the stories heavy themes. This film should have won many awards but I don't think many people in the US heard of it, let alone saw it. I was shocked who directed it because it is levels above anything he's done. Incredible!

While a very good film, it completely ignores the main character's back story. This leaves the viewer wondering why Willi has such a bloodlust for German deserters. It only makes sense if you know that he was a trained paratrooper, a veteran of 2 years of hard combat. At the same time, he was a pathological liar and probably quite mad. There was a lot of really interesting stuff in his life that was skipped over. It's a good movie, but it doesn't really tell the story. It just gives you a blurry snapshot of a short period of time in what was actually a much more interesting life.
