Add Weston McKennie and Tim Weah to the growing list of American trophy winners in Europe this season.
Both McKennie and Weah featured on Wednesday, helping Juventus down Atalanta 1-0 in the Coppa Italia Final. McKennie started and played 90 minutes in midfield while Weah came off the bench and played the final nine minutes of the match.
It marks the first Coppa Italia for Juventus since the 2020-21 season, in which McKennie was a part of.
Dusan Vlahovic delivered the opening and lone goal of the match in the fourth minute. Andrea Cambiaso’s pass allowed Vlahovic to race into the box before the Serbian fought off Isak Hien and drilled a shot into the back of the net.
Vlahovic came close to doubling Juventus’ lead in the 74th minute but VAR waved off the goal and kept Atalanta’s hopes alive. However, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side could not find an equalizer, failing to register a shot on target in the match.
McKennie celebrated his third trophy in Italian Football while Weah celebrated his first since joining from Lille last summer.
“It was an important night, playing a final is always a wonderful event,” Allegri said posmtatch in a club interview. “It is a team victory. It was not easy and I am very happy for the boys, they did a good job and gave a joy to the club, the fans and me. We went through three hard months that will be of great growth, Juventus is an important club and we got what we needed to get: the Champions League and playing a Coppa Italia final that the boys then did well to win.”

It doesn’t look like it. They apparently posted a consolidated net loss of almost ā¬240 million in the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

Anyone know if Juve has solved its money issues. A new manager and a couple big name attackers and Juve could be back to its Serie A winning ways.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they tour the US this summer and take advantage of McKennie and Weah having spent a season with them now.
They need to make a deep Champions League run, that’s the best way for clubs to make good money.
Yep, TV Money is the golden goose these days. Not enough cash from tickets, jerseys and other merch to make up for these astronomical salaries and transfers.

The speed has slowed down but it still seems to me that euro-football is heading to a massive cliff financially. There has got to be some regulation or other controls in place to make football a more solvent business rather than a tax write off for billionaire owners, hedge funds and conglomerates.
