Came here today by pure chance and what a lucky chance that was! Brilliant tour guides who were very friendly and accommodating, well explained and fascinating history surrounding the cabin and the yellow tube train and it was only a quick walk from Epping tube station (1 min through the car park!).
Would highly recommend!
P.S. Thr museum has signalling and London Underground artefacts displayed so caters for a wider audience than just those interested in signalling.

Have been meaning to visit this museum for ages and so glad we made the effort today. It was amazing. We had a full guided tour with excellent volunteers who really knew their subject. So interesting and will certainly make us think about things when next travelling on the tube. Highly recommend. Tour lasted and hour and a half.

I had a fascinating visit to the Epping Signalling Museum. It's really easy to get to. I got the Elizabeth Line to Stratford and from there I got the Central Line from there straight through to Epping. It's a few stops but if you have a good book and music it makes the journey go that much quicker.

As the train pulls into Epping station on the left hand side is an old signal box and a bright yellow underground unit.

When you get off the train and go through the barrier leave the station and turn left and walk through the car park to the end. You will be able to see the yellow tube train. On my visit as I approached a man came to a padlocked gate and asked if I was here to visit the museum. I said I was and he invited me in.

He proceeded to tell me all about the yellow train and to show me some of the signals they have outside and how they work. After this we went inside and he showed me some of the things they have in one of their rooms including station signage and the model of the proposed Northern Heights extension. I had previously seen this at the Elstree and Borehamwood Museum and it was great to see it again.

After this I was taken upstairs and handed over to another chap in the signal box where he showed me how they used to operate signals and points at Epping with fictitious trains arriving and departing. I had to pull the levers and operate the signals and points to get the trains to the right platforms and then onto their destinations. Not as easy as I thought!

After this I paid a visit to their gift shop and picked up some souvenirs. I was not charged to visit this little gem of a museum however I did make a donation as the people there were very knowledgeable and had given up their time to keep this piece of London Underground history alive.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

My grandson was staying with us - I'd been to the museum myself a year or two back and knew he would enjoy the tour - the volunteers there are so knowledgeable and are so clearly there simply for the love of it! Despite the pouring rain we had a brilliant tour with lots of entertaining and interesting anecdotes. Highly recommended!

I loved it here I really enjoyed how you can sit in the L11 train and how you can see all of the tube trains going by but my favourite part was using the switcher simulator.

Thanks Harrison. That 'switcher simulator' is our pride and joy. It's a fully working, mechanically and electrically interlocked London Underground 47 lever signalling frame. We're glad you had fun using the levers to signal a simulated train through Epping and beyond.

This is an excellent museum with all its artefacts cared for nicely. Many of the items on display are stuff I had forgotten about, such as the gaurds panel on the old trains where they used to communicate with the driver. There are all kinds of things here from old signs to good old strap handles.
The volunteers are enthusiastic and knowledgeable and this is worth a visit.

A proper living museum run by the people who worked with the exhibits on show. If you want to see how the UndergrounD used to be in the mid-late 20th century, this is for you. Well worth a visit.

Thank you for visiting and we're glad you liked our exhibits. It's a lot of hard work looking after some of our older items, especially our 92 year old locomotive!! But it's all worth it when our visitors enjoy their time with us. Thank you again.

Very enjoyable visit, their lest open day for 2022, as it happened. Two knowledegable guides, Peter and Steve, made for a fascinating time learning the history and technical side of Underground signalling, their reconstruction of the signal cabin equipment, plus the story of their preserved electric locomotive L11. Well worth the trip, I shall certainly return!

I parked my car at Epping station car park and by chance spotted the banner advertising the museum so went to have a quick look through the fence. The volunteers spotted me immediately and invited me in. They were very welcoming and enthusiastic, so much so that I changed my plans a bit and returned later that afternoon to have a look at Epping signalling cabin. It was fantastic. Bob showed us around the museum downstairs. Lots of interesting stuff to look at and so well explained by Bob. Then we went upstairs to see the operating room. That was brilliant with a 47 lever Westinghouse frame. They were able to simulate trains on the illuminated diagram. I can’t put into words how much I enjoyed moving the levers to reroute and signal trains.
This is a brilliant set up by the lads. So nice to meet volunteers who know the subject so well and are passionate about what they are doing. Really enjoyed my visit.
