Fantasy Football League, the Matt Lucas and Elis James fronted reboot of the 1990s TV format, has been cancelled by Sky.

The comedy, which took on the same premise as the David Baddiel and Frank Skinner show, launched in September 2022. It finished its latest run in March, running for a total of 24 episodes across the three years.

Aside from Lucas and James, the show also featured Andrew Mensah as the show's statistician and former footballer Lee Trundle, who sang on the show.

The programme, which aired on Sky Max in a 10pm slot, featured two guests on the sofa each week, to "share their thoughts on the beautiful game", with Russell Howard, Jennifer Saunders, Michael Sheen and Keir Starmer amongst those who appeared.

Production company Avalon also brought back the 'Phoenix From The Flames' segment, in which famous moments from the sport were recreated with the help of former famous footballers.

Producer Spencer Millman revealed the news on social media, typing: "Gutted to say that Fantasy Football League won't be returning for another run. Big thanks to my brilliant production team, crew, writers, spotters, you were an absolute joy to work with.

"A massive thanks to all the sofa & phoenix guests we had over the 24 shows, we loved having you. Huge love to Matt, Elis, Mense and of course Lee Trundle but most importantly thanks to the people who watched it. I'm eternally grateful you accepted the changes to the original and sorry we won't be making more. Much love and gratitude."
