NEW ROCHELLE, NY – This past Wednesday, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced the 2021 baseball schedule. The Iona College baseball program begins competition on Saturday, March 20 and will continue through late May when the 2021 MAAC Baseball Championship is scheduled to take place. Every MAAC school will play everyone four times; a doubleheader planned across two days.
The Gaels open the 2021 season at home at City Park against Saint Peter's on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21. Iona has won eight of the last 10 meetings, including four of the last five on its home field.
The month of March concludes in Westchester County when Canisius travels to City Park on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28.
Iona and Manhattan play a pair of mid-week doubleheaders at Dutchess Stadium in Riverdale, NY on Wednesday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 14. The rivals' doubleheader on April 7 is the Gaels first road game of the season.
Between the dates against Manhattan, Iona travels to Marist in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Maroon & Gold aim to win its first regular season series against the Red Foxes since 2016 when they face up the weekend on Saturday, April 10.
The Gaels travel south to Lawrenceville, NJ to play the Rider Broncs on the weekend of Saturday, April 17. Iona won two of the three games in 2019 in New Rochelle. The Maroon & Gold are 1-4 in their last five road games against the Broncs.
The month of April concludes with Iona hosting Monmouth on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25. The Hawks swept the season series in New Rochelle in 2019. The last time the Maroon & Gold defeated Monmouth at City Park was in 2015.
Iona's most extended road trip opens the month of May. The Gaels and Purple Eagles take the field against one another on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2. Niagara was 6-10 in 2020 with a win against then No. 14 Florida State prior to the season getting shut down.
Iona hosts the defending MAAC Champions, Quinnipiac, on Saturday, May 8 and Sunday, May 9. The Gaels hosted the Bobcats in 2019 and had a pair of extra-inning games. Quinnipiac won two of the three games, including the finale 14-inning affair. Iona has won three of the last five contests.
The Maroon & Gold's final road trip is the weekend of Saturday, May 15. Iona travels to Loudonville, NY to face-off against Siena. The Saints have won three straight against the Gaels, and five of the last six games. The last five games between Iona and Siena have all been decided by three or less runs.
Iona wraps up the 2021 regular season campaign at home the weekend of Saturday, May 22 against Fairfield. The Gaels will aim to break a scoring drought against the Stags. They have scored over three runs just once in their last five games, a 4-3 win at home on March, 23, 2019.
