When will the 180 days reset for Schengen zone

Itinerary

I landed in Spain March 16th and left May 12th I planned on returning to EU July 1st(I will have 33 days remaining within 180 days according to the calculator)

My question is when does the 180 days reset so I’m allowed another 90 days?

90 days after your last visit you can return for 90 days.

It doesn't "reset" it's a rolling counter.

Here is an example:

Let's say you want to enter the Schengen on December 23rd...

180 days before December 23rd is June 26th so you count up how many days between June 26th and December 23 were you in the Schengen. If that number is less than 90 you can enter the Schengen.

Now one day later it is Deember 24th and 180 days ago is now June 27th. So how many days have you been in the Schengen since June 27th? If this number is less than 90 you can remain in the Schengen.

Now one day after that is December 25th. Merry Christmas. 180 days ago is now June 28th. So how many days have you been in the Schengen since June 28th? If that number is less than 90 you are fine.

Another example.

Let's say you were in the Schengen from June 27th to July 4th. That is 7 days.

You enter the Schengen on December 23rd, 180 days ago is June 26th. So how many days have you been in the Schengen in the last 180 days? The answer is 7, so you have 83 days left.

The next day is December 24th. 180 days ago is June 27th. How many days in the last 180 have you been in the Schengen? The answer is 8, (June 27-July 4th and December 23rd). So you have 82 days left.

But what happens on the next day. It's now December 25th, and 180 days ago is June 28th. How many days have you been in the Schengen since June 28th? The answer is still 8. June 28 to July 4th is 6 days, and December 23rd and 24th is 2 days) So you still have 82 days left.

The same thing happens on December 26th. Since 180 days ago was June 29th you have still only spent 8 days in the Schengen in the last 180. (June 29th - July 4th & December 23-Dec 26)

You only count the last 180 days, so anything before that falls off and doesn't matter.

Take this to the extreme. Let's say you were in the Schengen from June 25th to Sept 23th (90 days). Then you come back into the Schengen on December 23rd. In the last 180 days you have spent 89 days in the Schengen. So you have 1 day left. But on December 24th you've still only spent 89 days out of the last 180 in the Schengen. So you still have 1 day left. This continues every day, you lose 1 day of your old stay and gain 1 day from your new stay, so you stay at exactly 89 days all the way until March 23rd.

Im doing the same thing.

I landed March 30th. Will be leaving June 21st.

Both of us did not, technically, use up all of the 90 days. But lets pretend we did.

However long we are outside of the Schengen Zone is how long we are allowed back in. So if you are outside for one month, you can return for one month.

So you would need to be outside of the Schegen Zone for 90 days to be allowed another 90 days.

Istanbul is my first option to achieve this.

Thank you !! The most clear way I’ve seen

This only works in some circumstances.

If you are in the Schengen for 60 days, and then you leave for 35 days, you can't come back in and stay for 35 days as you would then have been in the Schengen for 95 days in the last 180 days which is over the limit.

Rolling doesn't reset, it rolls .... 90 in 180.

Count backwards 180 days. You'll see that the first days you spent there (march 16th) will no longer count towards the 90 days from September 12th.
