Volunteers at Girvan RNLI supported the UK Coastguard helicopter with a training exercise this week.

The crew were undertaking their own training when they were called by Rescue 199 to assist with their own exercise.

A lifeboat spokesperson explained: "Our volunteer crew were out and about at sea, minding our own business and doing lifeboaty things, like helming, navigation, boat handling, emergency drills, when we received a call from a big noisy red and white flying thingamajig.

"Of course, this was our colleagues from UK Coastguard Rescue 199, based at Prestwick, asking if we would assist in some training exercises. Who are we to say no?

"Having to work closely with rescue helicopters and other partner agencies is part and parcel of what we do, and we never know when we will have to work with other agencies on a call out, so intense training with each other is paramount.

"Huge thanks to the crew of R199 for facilitating a joint training exercise this evening and allowing us a few photo opportunities."
