2 women arrested during accidental shooting call, Oconee County, South Carolina, deputies say
Two women were arrested in Oconee County, South Carolina, after deputies responded to a call about an accidental shooting, deputies said Monday.Makenna Leeanna Ryan, 23, of Tiger, Georgia, and Sarah Margaret Whitten, 31, of Walhalla, were arrested after an incident on Saturday, according to Master Deputy Jimmy Watt, with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.Watt said deputies were called to an address on Curtis Drive near Seneca after reports of a man who accidentally shot himself in the leg.When deputies arrived, they saw a vehicle pulling out of the driveway at the address and speeding off, according to Watt.He said deputies stopped the vehicle, being driven by Ryan, at the intersection of Biggerstaff Road and Fairview Church Road. Deputies found a handgun inside of the vehicle and a weapon magazine at the address of the original call, according to Watt. Ryan told deputies another woman, identified as Whitten. had asked her for a ride and had placed the gun and some bags in her vehicle, Watt said.He said deputies found a bag inside Ryan’s vehicle with about 234 grams of methamphetamine and 4 grams of fentanyl inside.Watt said Ryan was charged with trafficking, as well as accessory after the fact of a felony, and is being held on a $225,000 bond. He said she will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device as a condition of bond, should she be released from jail. Whitten was also charged with accessory after the fact of a felony and remains at the Oconee County Detention Center on a $25,000 surety bond, according to Watt. He said the patient in the accidental shooting was taken to the hospital for further treatment and evaluation, but no condition was released.
