The Beatles were an English rock group from 1960-1970. Their influence on the world and today's music is incredible. This subreddit is for discussion, news, memorabilia, and/ or anything else relating to the group. :)

For those with Beatles OCD

If you have mild OCD like I do, the Beatles catalog can drive you nuts. Things like Capitol repackaging the first album, Please Please Me, and calling it The Early Beatles and making it their fifth release. Or the band releasing Let it Be after Abbey Road. I like things orderly.

But one thing that always flowed perfectly were the names of the band members. John, Paul, George and Ringo is perfect. Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr is also perfect.

But what if McCartney had gone by his actual first name, James, instead of his middle name. What would that have done to the flow? What if he went by Jim or Jimmy?

Jim McCartney flows better than Paul McCartney. Your mouth is already making the M sound, so that would be an improvement linguistically. However it would probably have made them “Johnny Jimmy Georgey”, and I don’t like that.
