People across North Carolina and much of the eastern United States were shocked at a treat in the night sky on Friday.

Auroras, the natural light display often referred to as the northern lights in America, could be seen in much of the country as the result of an intense solar storm expected to last through the weekend.

Below are some photos shared on social media of Chapel Hill, Hillsborough and other places around Orange County where people snapped shots of the aurora borealis.
