Sue Schandelmeier (1953 - 2024)

Sue Ellen (Blue) Schandelmeier, age 70, of Roscoe, devoted her days to raising five children, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible school, playing and coaching softball, bowling, and working retail at JCPenny, Kmart, and CVS. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, completing puzzles and word games, baking, canning, and playing card games with family and friends. More than anything, though, she loved spending her days with her family and grandchildren. She will be remembered most for her strength, persistence, resilience, and sacrificial love.

After a hard battle with pancreatic cancer, she passed away on May 6, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Sue was born to Robert Blue and Carolyn Kruger (Wetzel) on November 23, 1953 in Rockford, IL. She was raised in Monroe Center, and graduated from Stillman Valley High School. She married John Schandelmeier on June 30, 1973.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Schandelmeier, father Robert Blue, and stepfather Wayne Wetzel. She is survived by children Mark (Nicole) Schandelmeier, Sandra (Dan) Huber, Carissa (Robert) Matheny, Tiffany (Jason) Askin, Erin (Jarred) Logan; and grandchildren Zach, Makayla, Adrian, Isaac, Cade, Madison, Levi, Evelyn, Liam, Aria, and Rowan.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be given to the American Cancer Society in memory of Sue. A memorial service will be on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 511 W Rockton Rd., Rockton, IL 61072. A visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10 a.m. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Machesney Park.
