Daniel Cockburn boards The Eden Express with Daniel Bekerman

The Canada/U.K. coproduction is produced by Good Question Media and Hopscotch Films, in association with Scythia Films.

Toronto-based filmmaker Daniel Cockburn (You Are Here) has signed on to write and direct The Eden Express, the latest feature from producer Daniel Bekerman (pictured).

The Eden Express is a Canada/U.K. coproduction with Bekerman, Chris Yurkovich and Christina Wood producing under the Toronto, L.A. and Vancouver banner Good Question Media, in association with Scythia Films. John Archer and Carolynne Sinclair Kidd will be producing for Scotland’s Hopscotch Films.

Jordan Hart will be executive producing for Good Question, with U.K. actor and comedian Stephen Fry also attached as an EP.

LevelK is representing the global sales and Mongrel Media will distribute the film in Canada. Casting is currently underway.

The film is based on the memoir of the same name by Mark Vonnegut, son of famed U.S. author Kurt Vonnegut. It depicts the writer’s 1970 quest to leave his famous father’s house in Nixon’s America to go west in search of a better way of life on a British Columbia commune.

The project was announced as in development back in 2017, when Scythia Films formed a partnership with Stellar Citizens, led by Yurkovich and Alex Ordanis.

Bekerman will be at the Cannes Film Festival next week with his Canadian coproduction The Apprentice, the Donald Trump biopic starring Sebastian Stan and directed by Ali Abbasi, which is in competition there. The film is also distributed in Canada by Mongrel.

Cockburn is a Canadian filmmaker and artist based in Glasgow. His debut feature You Are Here (2010) premiered at Locarno before traveling to Toronto, Rotterdam and 40 other festivals.
