The Fort Frye FFA traveled to the State FFA Convention in Columbus, Ohio on May 2-3. This trip was truly one to remember. During the first session the chapter was recognized for charitable giving for raising and donating over $500 to the community this year.

The chapter had three state proficiency finalists. Our first finalist was junior, Julia Silvus, who placed third in the Agricultural Education Proficiency. She put together an afterschool class to educate elementary aged students about agriculture. Senior, Wyatt Fulton, our second finalist, placed second in Agricultural Mechanics Repair and Maintenance Placement Proficiency. Het helped repair tractors and farm equipment on his family farm.

Our final proficiency finalist is sophomore Christy Willis, she placed second in the Veterinary Science Proficiency.

She works at Green Meadows Veterinary Hospital assisting with office appointments and surgeries.

On the first day between sessions, the chapter took a visit to the Ohio State House and the North Market.

While at the State House members got to see where the Senate and House of Representatives sessions take place and learned more about the history of Ohio.

The chapter had one member recognized on stage for winning a state CDE.

Eighth grader, Graden Miller, placed first as an individual in the State Middle School Nature Interpretation competition this year. While there, the chapter picked up plaques and banners from state competitions. Members of the Novice Parliamentary Procedure team received their banner for placing fourth in the state, also making school history.

Eighth grader, Alyssa White, received her plaque for placing second as an individual in the state Middle School Livestock Judging CDE.

Our rural soils team received their plaque for placing eighth overall and member of the team, Julia Silvus, received her own plaque for placing sixth as an individual in the competition.

Not only have some of the chapter CDE teams and members shined, the chapter also received three gold chapter officer book ratings. Past secretary, Julia Silvus, treasurer, Kyla Britton, and reporter, Christy Willis worked extremely hard on their chapter books to receive this rating.

Eighth grade members, Alyssa White and Mollie Lang, were state finalists for their Agriscience Fair project. Their project was based on Animal Systems, they conducted experiments to determine which type of wool held the most moisture. They placed second in division two.

To earn a State FFA Degree, it requires diligent work on your supervised agricultural experiences, engaging in leadership activities, and serving the community. Ten of the chapter’s members worked above and beyond to be awarded the State FFA Degree and the golden charm. This group of members from the chapter included Todd Wells, Clayton Miller, Dusty Dye, Owen Wagner, Alex Henke, Maggie Fulton, Julia Silvus, Olivia Lang, Kyla Britton, and Emma Richards.

The sky’s the limit for newly elected State Vice-President at Large, Julia Silvus after she made the 2024-2025 Ohio FFA State Officer team. She completed an application and went through a series of interviews this winter, she was then selected from a panel of applicants.

The chapter would like to thank the community and school for the continuous support of the program. The chapter wouldn’t be able to provide all of the great experiences it does to students, if it weren’t for the support.
