Subject:
An almost forgotten classic comedy
Ronald Coleman, Celeste Holm , Vincent Price, Barbara Britton and Art Linkletter In a David and Goliath tale.
Coleman plays a man who is so well educated that he has a hard time finding steady work. On a job interview with a huge soap manufacturer he is refused a job by the eccentric, arrogant president. The president is played by Vincent Price in a rare and memorable comic role.
To get revenge on the insulting president, Coleman goes on a quiz program run by the soap company. I will leave it there to avoid spoiling anything.
Barbara Britton plays Coleman's sister who falls for the obnoxious quiz show host, Art Linkletter. Celeste Holms plays the femme fatale sent to undermine Coleman.
This movie is a gem. It was not well received when it came out which I find hard to understand. Maybe it was the spirit of the times but the reviews that I found from back then seemed to take a moralistic stance about the plot and ignored the satirical, even farcical nature of the film. Eh, go figure.
The plots unfolds quickly, the dialogue is witty, the cast a surprise, and there are a few twists and turns before the finale.
It's only about 90 minutes long so it won't ruin your life to have a look. Don't cheat yourself of a good time.
