- Jeffry bEssendon, Australia13,338 contributionsThis university dates from the Japanese colonial era (1895-1945). National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) is known for its picturesque campus, and the iconic banyan tree, which provides shade during the baking summer. The historic campus is open to the public. NCKU is best known for its science and engineering schools, which evolved from NCKU's roots as a technical college in the Japanese era.Written December 27, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SuperXTaoyuan, Taiwan419 contributionsA beautiful park hiden in a silent community but easily accessible. The location is opposite to the Culture Center of Tainan City across a drive way. If you are nearby this area, you can visit by the way.Written June 9, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NewjasmineTainan, Taiwan2 contributionsThis location was the North Guild “Su Wan Li Garden” in Qing Dynasty, then sold to Presbyterian Church, and finally established Tainan Theological College And Seminary here. Due to less-development, most buildings and old trees can be retained.
The main building was designed in Gothic architecture and Taiwanese traditional roof. Beautiful window types and wall decorations catch everyone’s eyes.
Su Wan Li imported some trees to plant in this land to show off his ability and those trees are still alive now, so the age of camphor tree and Mexican Frangipani are over 300 years old.
It was the backyard of famous merchant, green, quiet and leisure; when I sit on the bench under the old Mexican Frangipani, I believe it can be one of the top 10 beautiful scenery in Tainan.Written July 6, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is a red and light yellow decorated, elegant and beautiful building, with the British Colonial architectural style. Unfortunately the architect was anonymous.
Now it is used as a multi-function center. There are cafe, restaurant, exhibition hall and gift shop. Free admission.Written December 11, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Agnes ChongSingapore, Singapore40 contributionsI am guessing this is the ‘it’ mall of the district, with something for the whole family. there was zara home, eslite bookstore, quality food places and a good departmental store. there was even a night market with young people selling fashion accessories and quality clothes during the weekend I was thereWritten December 15, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NA- AustraliaDandenong, Australia908 contributionsGranted Chinese is not our second, third or even fourth language, but got the impression we were a bit of a bother. Thought we had a simple and I’d imagine common question- for a railway station site. I.e how to book and get to HSR station. Maybe a simple printed instruction sheet in several languages regarding this BTW HSR to Taipei is one for less and twice the cost, from this town- but the bus ride to the HSR from the TRA station takes 40 minutes. !!!
