Great if you love Japanese gardens. We enjoyed the area with our young daughter. It was relaxing to look at the fish and look at the pond.

We had a fun time walking and seeing the various birds, and other animals (snakes, turtles) This is a animal rescue place. Its a free place to go. One can walk by the creek, then go see the birds There is a Discovery Center. The staff does their work there and at the animal hospital.

    There are also picnic tables.

The big surprise is that there is a wonderful eating place within the museum. Dont get me wrong I love the quaint museum and its Free access but the special date gets better with access to The Cannery located inside. If you want to hand out and do paperwork and have hot tea or if you want to have a reasonable price breakfast - lunch go for it.They also have special brunch menu on th weekends. When I have time this is my go to spot! take my work computer and go have great breakfast - love the daily scramble, bacon ---

We went for a walk in the wetland area of San Francisco Bay. This is a very pretty area. There is an interpretive center to tell one more about the area.

We paid our respects at Lone Tree Cemetery. The cemetery has been in Hayward since 1868. It is 42 acres. It holds one of the oldest continuous Memorial day celebrations in Alameda county.

Part of the enormous green spaces around the hills of the East Bay, this place brings great recreation to the good folks of the suburbs, and elsewhere! Lots to do here. Come and enjoy the nature.

I Came across this spot while "waiting out" a traffic jam home from work one day.

Mt Eden, was once a town nestled between Hayward on the North, The Clawitter and Patterson ranches to the south and Russel City to the north on older Californian maps.

The Cemetery is designated a "pioneer cemetery" (having tombstones dating to the 1860's) and, although in Hayward, is recognized as being in the former city of Mt. Eden.
An interesting note is that the cemetery lies less than 1/2 mile from another former city: Russel
An active cemetery, the location is still well kept. It is adjacent to both a Jr High and Hayward's community collage. With markers referencing the namesakes of streets and local districts, I'm sure one or more extra credit papers based themselves on the cemetery and it's locally famous residents.

Southland is a good sized mall with many shopping options. The food court has a great variety for dining. More restaurants on the edge of the parking lot. Movie theatre to keep the kids entertained.
