Bell was killed when his motorcycle was stuck by a car attempting a U-turn

GREENWOOD, SC, (May 10, 2024) - Stanley Marion Bell, 56, died after his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle at about 11:45 p.m. on Friday, May 10.

Greenwood County crash 5/10Stanley Marion Bell’s motorcycle was struck by a vehicle attempting a U-turn, killing him, on Friday, May 10.

Bell was traveling east on SC 246 when a Honda Accord near him attempted to make a U-turn and struck him. Bell was injured in the collision and was taken to Self Regional Hospital for treatment, where he died of his injuries.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The  Greenwood County Highway Patrol is still investigating the collision. An official police report will be made available once the investigation has been completed.

In 2017, 5,172 motorcyclists died in motorcycle crashes, down 3 percent from 5,337 in 2016, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In 2017, motorcyclists were 27 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.

Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, stated that motorcyclists are arguably the most vulnerable motorists on the road. Blind spots, car doors, inexperienced drivers, and distracted motorists are often causes of these collisions, she explained.

“A forensic examination of both the vehicle involved and the motorcycle, as well as photos that were taken of the scene, will help investigators determine which party ultimately caused the accident,” said Bond, a national analyst for The Legal Advocate. “An accident reconstruction team and or even motorcycle manufacturing experts are oftentimes needed as well to help ultimately piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages following a collision.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Stanley Marion Bell may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this tragic incident.

“It’s important that the family takes immediate steps to protect their legal rights following a loss,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand what victims must go through and knowing your rights and protecting them is vital. As experienced wrongful death lawyers, we will do the work for you, providing up to date information as to any ongoing investigation and proactively protecting your legal rights and best interests.”
