Honestly MJ deserved that. Trying to be like God is where his narcissism levels reached a fever pitch
My view has got absolutely nothing to do with with Jackson being a child abuser.
You don’t get away with taking yourself that serious in the UK. Especially around that time in pop culture.
I’m glad Cocker did it, it made Jackson look like a total fool, up there trying to be all Jesus-y and presenting himself as some saviour of children.
Yeah. Jarvis was simply reacting to the over-the-top pomposity of it all. Urban myth had it that he showed his arse to the audience - he didn't, he bent over and flapped his hands.
I was just watching it again and it’s hilarious. He runs up the top of the stage where they’re showing the sad faces of poverty stricken children, and just making a mockery of it all 😂.
Yes, it’s good to have awareness of those in poverty, but it was the pomposity of it all that made it seem ridiculous even without Cocker.
Let’s also not forget earth song wasn’t even popular when it was first released. So not only was Jackson preforming a song general audience had no clue about. But he was acting like a Jesus figure with a bunch of kids (post jordie)
It was a big deal at the time but MJ deserved it. Keep in mind that this was after the Chandlers were paid off and MJ was playing Jesus on stage while being hugged by adoring children. The bit where messiah MJ convinces the soldier to put his rifle down is particularly hilarious.
There is an interview with Jarvis about the incident and how he was taken to the local police station. A popular comedian, Bob Mortimer, just happened to be a lawyer and helped Jarvis get out.

i always read your username wrong lol. the tiddles got me confused
I gained a lot of respect for Jarvis Cocker when he did that.
It was a clever, funny, and harmless way to lampoon an over-the-top performance.
https://youtu.be/oJj3iupbnyk?si=4xEylZpFqUaYElJB the performance in question. It makes me cringe a bit
Why?
Just the why how MJ portrayed himself as jesus was a bit much
Oh right sorry I thought you meant Jarvis
when i was a fan, i was upset but not anymore.
It was the best part of the show.
It's hilarious. The camera man even focuses in on him, he clearly thought Jarvis was part of the performance. Lol! And then one of the dancers starts chasing him around. Iconic moment
Funny as hell.
MJ behaved literally like some cult leader. Jarvis had the exactly right reaction.
I found it random to be honest, Jarvis apparently said it was a spur in the moment thing (he will most likley been drunk/high) saw him looking god like, hates it then jumped on stage. He said he has no negative things to say about him and no personal issues with MJ
I remember the incident at the time very well. I believe the disrespectful act occurred after the first false allegation with JC and father and the subsequent financial settlement. Jarvis Cocker was aware of this and he thought Jackson was guilty of something. Jackson was innocent of any crime while Cocker jumped to false conclusions like millions of others and he made himself look a right Prat.
