My Very First Concert Ever. I was 13 y/o. Mom must have dropped me Off. Saw them in South FL. What a great start to an epic life of concerts n festivals. 🎶

Poster says tickets were $10 IN ADVANCE.

I bet they totally hammered you for $11 for tickets at the gate.

u/Bowl_Pool avatar

10% surcharge, damn

Frampton Comes Alive was at its peak then.

The bicentennial spirit of 1976 concert in Philadelphia… Where the Dream Weaver guy on the synthesizer is the only American on the stage. Bet it was an awesome concert, though!

Lolol exactly what I was thinking

You can't buy a drink for $10 at most concerts today.

That's $54 in today's dollars, friend.

u/ManiAAC41 avatar

Thank you. I came here to say this... $54 in 2024 dollars still sounds like a great deal, though!

$54 would be a good price today.

the cost to get in line to pay for the bathroom is at least $10 at most festivals now

Show me the way dream weaver!

I was there. There were little bonfires at the entrances to the seats. Also, the water situation sucked if you were on the field.

Everybody would sue now. That’s why we pay $15 for beer.

u/phillybilly avatar

I was there too

They had fireworks at the end.

u/AggravatingOne3960 avatar

We were already hitting the exit. I remember the fog machine and the green laser.

I read this as Yes… Gary Wright and Peter Frampton played…

Just those 2 acts…

Me too. Twice. Even after seeing the poster and thinking “how is OP gonna do Yes dirty by completely failing to acknowledge them?”

Then I read your comment and it clicked 😂😂😂

I saw Frampton a year later in '77 at JFK with Lynyrd Skynyrd, J Geils, and Dickie Betts and Great Southern.

u/Flyersandcaps avatar

I was at that one also. We left before Frampton.

It seemed like a lot of people did, or left during his set. It was a Skynyrd crowd primarily. What a day though, good show.

u/Flyersandcaps avatar

Skynard was great. My college friends were big J Geils fans. They drove so I followed!

I saw that tour in KC. My first concert, also included Santana on the bill. I left wanting to be in a rock band more than I'd ever wanted anything in my life. Truly life changing.

Arrowhead?

Royals Stadium (as it was known then).

Sounds cheap but median income in ‘76 was around 13K and $10 in that year is roughly equivalent to $55 in today’s money.

55$ for those 3 is a bargain.

Imagine foo fighters, and a couple warm up acts for 55$ on a Saturday afternoon into the evening.

I worked "security" at this concert.

u/arossana avatar

I was 15 at that time I and could wait for this concert. Although I thought it was closer to 130,000 but I could be wrong. While Frampton was at his peek most people went to see Yes. They were really big in Philly at that time. Frampton was like the icing on the cake. Sad to say not many really cared about Gary Wright but his set was good.

I liked Gary Wright and Frampton, didn’t care about Yes.

Would have been so cool to see 120k people rock out to “Dream Weaver”

u/No_Mountain_2086 avatar

I was there

Love those PRICES!

I was just thinking that was really expensive for that time lol

We would see 5-6 headliners at a time! Good times!

Adjusted that’s like $60 a ticket and in 1976 like 4/5 of the seats sucked and I wasn’t there but I’d have to imagine the technology wasn’t up to making the sound quality that great either.

That’s ok. It was a party.

Wander around, someone hands you a doobie, you make a new friend then wander off cause you see someone else.

Just being there was awesome and you felt so lucky.

Not really the same vibe as a concert today at all.

I attended this concert. Was in the Navy stationed on a ship undergoing an overhaul at PNSY. It was so fking hot in the middle of that sea of people. When the sun went down, Yes performed with their light show.

I saw this tour in Denver, and it also fetured Steve Miller Band, Tommy Bolin, and a local band Natural Gas. Tickets were 12.00!!!

u/Exciting_Escape2218 avatar

I was there. 16 years old. The Pousette Dart Band was the opening act. By the time Yes came on most people were done and some people were starting fires toward the back of the stadium.

u/zggystardust71 avatar

I saw that tour in Austin, TX, "The Sunday Break" . Me and 8 other people shared a hotel room lol

u/IMissRollerHockey avatar

I saw them in the summer of 76 at Colt Park in Hartford,Ct. My first concert, it was an incredible experience that i’ll never forget.

I was there. 15 years old. It was mind blowing.

u/DubC_Bassist avatar

I know people who were at that show. They still talk about it.

That place is enormous.

u/JMWest_517 avatar

Didn't see this show, but that same summer I saw the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and Boz Scaggs at what was then called Schaefer Stadium in Foxboro, MA. Terrible venue, but nobody cared. It was a 7-hour party.

Awesome, I was there

u/Opinionated_by_Life avatar

And I got stopped by the Philly PD on my way there, with 1/4 pound of hgash under my drivers seat. They had myself and my Army buddies get out and searched us and the car, because a cop saw one of my buddies smoking a 'white cigarette (Parliament), and thought it was joint. But somehow, they missed the hash and let us on our way to the concert.

Life changing moment right there.

We had the same show in Chicago, only, Lynard Skynard was on the bill also.

That's right! My wife maintains that i was the first one at that show to start yelling "Free Bird". But it was a big crowd. :D

And for this I've been punished the rest of my music- playing career......

They played Mile High in Denver joined by Steve Miller (and Tommy Bolan and Natural Gas). End of August 76. Not sure of crowd size. I was pretty stoned.

Yes was given top billing. Leaving was a mess because SEPTA was on strike.

Love is Alive is an awesome tune and was all over the radio back then, no song rocks harder with no guitar. Dream Weaver is another great one

u/DunebillyDave avatar

Old man sez: "I remember when tickets for Philly venues were $5 plus fifty cents for Ticketron." Then Bob Dylan came to town and wanted $10. I said, "I wouldn't pay ten bucks to watch King Tut work the uneven bars in the Summer Olympics."

So the Eagles only played there a handful of years? Did it just sit empty most of the time?

It was the home of the Army-Navy game for years.

I bet that was a great time

Do You Feel Like I Do? I feel old.

u/gskein avatar

Looking back it seems crazy that bands like Yes and Tull drew such huge crowds with their complex music and lyrics. I think it’s because music education was a part of the curriculum in most public schools so kids learned to appreciate all kinds of music. Nowadays with the obsession with testing, math and science kids aren’t getting any exposure to the arts, and it shows in what is popular.

u/TomEBoi avatar

I was there. First ever concert. I was 14. Poor Pousette-Dart Band..nobody ever remembers them also performing. Also, the mummers having trash thrown at them.

Ticket prices were so much less then..

u/OMF-ToolFan avatar

Zeppelin tickets were $10 as well
