Rani Mukerji on why there was distance with cousin Kajol in the past
Actor Rani Mukerji spoke about her differences with actor-cousin Kajol. Tanishaa Mukerji shared she reconnected with Rani after knowing about her pregnancy.

Actor Rani Mukerji is 'happy' about reuniting with her cousins, Tanisha Mukerji and Kajol, after not connecting with them throughout the 2000s. In one of her interviews, Rani acknowledged past differences with her cousins but emphasised that these issues were resolved as there were no substantial reasons for discord. Tanisha, in the same conversation, revealed that she re-established contact with Rani upon learning of her pregnancy.
"Family is one thing that stays with you, so it's important that the world sees you as one. Differences happen everywhere, but if there is no reason for differences, then why should the differences happen? In this case, it was exactly that," Rani told Galatta India.
Rani added, "There was no reason, it just happened because of miscommunication and no communication."
Rani Mukerji is the daughter of Ram Mukherjee, who was the first cousin of Kajol's father, Shomu Mukherjee.
Earlier, Rani had shared that more than Kajol, she is closer to her sister Tanisha Mukerji. During Rani's interview, Tanisha gave a shout-out to her bond with the 'Black' actor and recounted the heartfelt moment she decided to reconnect with her sister.
"When Rani was pregnant, I felt I just cannot have her have a baby and that baby don't know me. I felt that so strong and so deep within me, I felt this is my sister as well. When you see other generations coming, you feel you should be there for each other, because a family is a family at the end of the day. Also, the way a sister knows a sister, nobody else does. The relationship of sisters is very special. Now, I just pick up the phone and yell like anything, like recently when she forgot my birthday," Tanisha said.
Kajol and Rani appeared together on Karan Johar's talk show, 'Koffee With Karan,' where Rani revealed that the loss of their fathers brought them back together. "As families when you lose your loved ones, and I was very close to Kajol’s dad. When you go through tough times, when you go through loss in the family in terms of people you love, I think that’s when everyone comes closer,” Rani said.
Rani Mukerji was last seen in the 2023 drama, 'Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.' Details about her upcoming projects are yet to be announced.
