She was a British actress with a number of movie roles to her credit.

The Bebington native was most famous for the role of Nellie Boswell in Carla Lane’s sitcom Bread, remaining one of several actors to remain with the show for its entire seven series.

English actress Jean Bohy was first married to William Boht. Her first marriage ended in divorce.

Jean Boht then got married to Carl Davis, an American-born British conductor and composer. 

The couple tied the knot on December 28, 1970. At the time, the English actress was 38 and her spouse was 34 years old.

The late couple were married for over 5 decades and even in their last months on earth, per images that popped up of them, they were still each other’s companion.

The actress was older than her spouse with an age gap of 4 years.

The year 2023 was a dark year for Boht and Davis as the duo died.

How did Carl Davis die? Davis died from a brain haemorrhage in Oxford on August 3, 2023, aged 86 in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, UK. His wife Jean Boht died a month later on September 12, 2023, aged 91, having battled vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Who is Carl Davis?

Carl Davis was an American-born British conductor and composer.

He was born on October 28, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, United States, to Jewish parents, Sara (née Perlmutter) and Isadore Davis.

He studied composition with Paul Nordoff and Hugo Kauder, and subsequently with Per Nørgard in Copenhagen. He attended Bard College, in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. 

He was most famous for being the spouse of actress Jean Boht who had a career a successful career and several movies in her credit.

His early work in the US provided valuable conducting experience with organisations such as the New York City Opera and the Robert Shaw Chorale.

He wrote music for more than 100 television programmes (notably the landmark ITV series World At War (1973) and BBC’s Pride and Prejudice (1995), created new scores for concert and cinema performances of vintage silent movies and composed many film, ballet and concert scores that were performed worldwide, including (in collaboration with Paul McCartney) the Liverpool Oratorio in 1991.

Davis’s publisher was Faber Music.

In 1959, the revue Diversions, of which he was co-author, won an off-Broadway award and subsequently travelled to the Edinburgh Festival in 1961. As a direct result of its success there, Davis was commissioned by Ned Sherrin to compose music for the original British version of That Was the Week That Was. Other radio and TV commissions followed and Davis’s UK career was launched.
