Unfortunately they have sued the German state multiple times and often behave like entitled brats.. I still think Germany should return to monarchy, but they are not doing themselves any favours by antagonizing the German state and demanding things. The Hapsburgs for example are always socially and politically active, trying to support and help their former subjects, not demanding anything. Better way to go about it, in my opinion
To be fair, I think the Hohenzollern were in the right in the whole debate surrounding their estates + the artwork which created so much controversy some years ago.
What people don't know is that they had actually been completely fine with calm and constructive negotiations for years prior, trying to find a mutually agreeable arrangement. That all changed when, you guessed it, those negotiators from Germany got voted out... in favour of Die Linke - the Democratic Socialists, many of whose members are former SED from East Germany.
To nobody's surprise, they cancelled negotiations and refused to hold any more. The Hohenzollern, Georg Friedrich in particular, was understandably pissed about this, and tried to sue them over this.
The one thing that I must agree with is that Georg Friedrich acted too rash against critical, free press in the wake of this incident, but that's not exactly something I would lose sleep over. This is a family trying their hardest to treasure their very own heritage, after all. I would wager emotions were in play, too, but that's not entirely absolving blame.
