When Twohy and Diesel get together with limited funds, it forces them to get creative and, as shown here, deliver a higher brand of B-movie entertainment that leaves you wanting more.

It is a fun action movie with a recognizable hero and some good action scenes. I would argue that it is the weakest of the trilogy just because the first act is so CG driven and thus uninteresting. However, when it hits its stride it is a lot of fun.

The scope of this third theatrical episode has reverted back to one of simplicity and solitude.

A few decent scenes can't salvage what appears to be nothing more than a money grab.

As a movie, Riddick is half giddy, pulpy sci-fi that is a total blast; and half a clumsy, overlong mess, full of plot holes and inconsistencies.

To its credit, "Riddick" never takes itself too seriously, but it doesn't quite delve into full-fledged camp mode. Instead it is a film that sort of straddles the center of the mediocre line.

Riddick is one of those movies that, once you watch it, is destined to likely get mixed up in most people's minds with a lot of other movies that are sort of like it. However, for the time that it's onscreen, it's diverting enough to merit a watch.

Basically, Riddick strays and strains while never serving up a throbbing storyline to justify why the audience wants to reacquaint themselves with the pumped-up planetary bad boy...get ready for this...utter Riddick-ulousness.

The on-going involvement of writer/director David Twohy is evident in the continuity of the story over more than a decade since Riddick's introduction in 2000.

Not just a pitiful example of 'churn 'em out' genre cinema, but is also perhaps set to be the most chauvinistic, sexist movie of the year.

Violent, strange, and with ever-escalating stakes, this is the definition of a well-crafted B-movie.

[Riddick] feels like a B-grade project made up of impressive CGI creatures, an overly CGI'd planet, and a script of clunky one-liners.

Don't waste your time on this one.

As a character, Riddick is no more than a rumble in [Vin] Diesel's throat.

      Full Review | Original Score: 1/5 | Sep 5, 2017

What's disappointing about Riddick is that it never seems to figure out why we would want to follow the main character, outside of his propensity for violence and snark.

B-level sci-fi doesn't have to be this tedious or banal.

      Seems like a side adventure.

Diesel's a guy who orders everything with extra cheese. Especially his dialogue.

If you are a fan of sci-fi, of horror, and/or of the mix of the two genres, you should find plenty to enjoy here and I recommend the film to you.
