To delete your mailbox on the web, follow these simple steps:
- Head over to the Yahoo account termination page.
- Type in your email address and click Next.
- Type in your password and click Next.
- Read through the terms and conditions.
- Proceed with the ‘Continue delete my account’ option.
- Type your mail address into the ‘Enter your email address’ field and click ‘Yes, terminate this account’.
💡 Note: You can only terminate your mailbox if you don’t have active subscriptions and it's been 90 days since the end of the paid term for any subscription that was canceled. You may check for your subscriptions here.
Once you have deleted your mailbox, the email address is up for grabs by anyone. This means someone else can now use the address, although your information and emails will be gone.
If you don’t want this to happen, maybe because they might receive emails from old senders, or you would like to keep the domain. Just keep the Yahoo account, it’s a free service! Still redirect emails to a new address and just remove the application.
💡 Reminder: Let your contacts know you are deleting your Yahoo Mail account. Set up a redirection or wait around a month and email your new address over to anyone who sends an email.

If you found your email address deactivated and can’t log into your mailbox, the following reasons may be the case:
- You haven't signed into your mailbox during the last 12 months.
- Your mailbox was used in a way that violates Yahoo’s Terms of Service.
- You have previously requested this mailbox to be deleted.

To avoid your account becoming inactive, link it to the email app you are using with your other email accounts.
